d's has only worn a proper coat a handful of times in the last 3 yrs. he's 14 now and out grown it anyway. He says he doesn't have room in his locker at school for a big coat and they are not allowed to wear them indoors so it's just a big pain. fair enough and for the last 3 yrs he has got a lift to school in car but from now on the lift is no longer available so he will be cycling or walking. He has a decent waterproof but nothing warm. he insists he will be fine. do teenage boys just not feel the cold? can anyone recommend some styles I could show him?

Even if you buy one he won't wear it. They don't feel the cold.

You could buy one.
Then have an argument every day to make him carry it to school.
He will not wear it though.

I think you are right. not worth it is it.

D's 15 actually asked for one last year.
Got him one from Sports Direct with a zippy out fleece lining. Think it was a Karrimoor one.
He also has a parka for being cool in.

My ds will wear a waterproof jacket that's thin enough and light enough to crumple fit in his bag, but that's about it. And that's a boy who just doesn't care at all about what everyone else does/wears, so not a case of peer pressure.

I'd give up and save yourself the stress.

None of my teenage boys wears anything more than a hoody out of school - if it's sub-zero. They'll happily go to school in a blazer in torrential rain, blizzards etc etc despite the assortment of waterproofs hanging up in the hall.

Surprisingly, ds2 decided he needed a coat for the sixth form last winter and got a very nice parka style coat. He's got a bit of a mod look going on so he looks great in it. But he hardly ever wears it because it's 'not cold enough' or he doesn't want to carry it around ......

A shell (waterproof and windproof) is really all you need - that's perfectly warm enough. My 13 year old is perfectly happy wearing shorts in December but will not go without his jumper under his blazer to school even when its' hot!

they are a mystery.

if you can afford it the superdry windbreaker style coats are 'cool' warm and dry... they are expensive! but tk maxx does them a tiny bit cheaper

My 12 yr old certainly feels the cold, anything lower than 12 degrees and he'll be wrapped up on a huge coat complaining that he's freezing. but somehow if he's going out with friends rather than to school, he would happily wear shorts and a t-shirt in mid December.

Mine have Superdry windcheaters from the Superdry outlet store £45 but worth every penny because they actually wear them.

I have given up. There are 3 coats that I've bought for my DD since she joined secondary school. Each one was carefully chosen and I was assured it would be worn.

Nope, she just chucks on a zip up hoody if it's pouring down and that's it.
