So my 16yr old has just passed 10 GCSEs grade C and above... Amazingly proud.

Background: PND after he was born, non-stop (non serious) physical issues till about age 6, seemingly never ending round of appts with doctors, physios, therapists. Suspected ADHD from yr2 in school, took till yr5 to get the all clear.

5yrs of senior school where teachers either loved him or hated him, (so hard to listen to their negativity at parents evening) and he has done so well.

Just goes to show the so called experts don't know from shit Smile Smile

Well done him, especially with what he has been through. Hope he is going on to do what he enjoys.

That's amazing...congratulations, been through something similar DS1 now in second year of college and thriving in that environment. Your DS has done we'll and so have you...it's worth the struggle/heartache when you look back... But so tough and never ending at the time. So pleased for you all.

Thanks.... He's an amazing young man, he has no memory of how bad things were when he was young and I'm never gonna bring it to his awareness, but for those of us who do remember... What he's achieved is nothing short of miraculous.

On to 6th form and a levels in maths, chemistry, biology & geography.. Who'd have thunk it?

You must feel very proud. Great to hear that your son has done so well in spite of being misunderstood at times.

Well done to him.

What did professionals say that prompted the last comment on your original post?

yougotafriend · 22/08/2014 08:50

Experts as in teachers mainly....
Can't concentrate, has no discipline, disruptive, doesn't take school seriously. I guess pretty standard comments for a kid that doesn't fit their version of "normal".

His personality is so delightful and in primary school where the teacher saw him all day they saw all sides it was easier, in senior school where they see kids for such a short time period I feel their mind is made up too quickly and most (not all) aren't prepared to change their minds.... One English teacher in particular springs to mind....

Congratulations yougotafriend

(Some of my DS' teachers give me the rage too... - DS has aspergers)

Well done to your son!

TheReluctantCountess · 22/08/2014 11:12

A child can lack concentration and be disruptive and still get great exam results. The teachers will have only been reporting on what they saw in their lessons.

Well done to your son but you know in secondary school teachers rpt what they see... seems as if your son behaved poorly which is not at all inconsistent with good results.
