DD has a placement in a local catholic primary school, quite strict, but letter just says "wear clothes you will be okay with getting dirty in"
Now, we don't know what to put her in. Chinos, vans and a t-shirt? Or jeans? Really don't want her to ruin any clothes.

If you don't mind the chinos getting dirty then wear them but if the jeans are the ones you don't mind getting dirty in wear those. Who was the letter from? Perhaps mention to the class teacher what the letter said and she hopes jeans are ok. If she feels underdressed on first day wear something else afterwards. The primary school staff I have seen are not dressed as bank managers!!!

I would avoid jeans (has been a definite no in all schools I've worked in) but make sure it's something washable - pair of black trousers - school trousers even.
After the first day, she can check and if it's OK with them wear jeans after that, but it's always better to be overly smart than under-smart.

I've always worn black trousers and a plain coloured cotton T-shirt for work in nurseries/schools.

Jeans are usually a big no.

DD came home, most teachers incredibly relaxed, only head in a suit amongst 5 male staff, most females wearing shorts and vests!
Tomorrow's non uniform so she's taking a donation and wearing more casual, but considering replacing the cardi she wore today with a hoodie
