Interested in hearing from parents whose sons have this.

DS 15 is really piling on the pressure to get this game as 'all his friends have it'.

Are you comfortable with your son playing it?

I would not let him see an 18 movie, so I feel the same about this game.

But we are also getting a bit tired of FIFA 14.

I told Ds I was posting on here for advice and he said "Mumsnet is crap"! So please prove him wrong with your erudite advice …

Thanks you.

Thank you! Someone speaking sense! People on Mumsnet seem to think the only things you can do in the game are shag prostitutes and then murder them, which isn't true at all as I'm sure you know.

But then again, we're talking about people who think it's acceptable to 'LTB' if they don't have a ring on their finger after a certain amount of time.

I keep out of games convos and let DH deal with it. Although DS1 does have some 18 games, DH will not allow GTA in the house. However I know what you mean about pressure. DS1 finds all his mates go off to play it and he's left on his tod. We actually found it in the house one day nae luck kiddo as he'd borrowed it from his mate then it had fallen out his school bag on his way to his room. Needless to say we were all a bit mortified and DS and DH had another a big convo about it and then we took it back to his friends parents and explained what had happened.

the thing is, noi, dont want to be explaining to a six year old what sex/drugs are - a 15 year olds knows what that stuff is. it doesnt make rape (and you aren't raping them, they go with you, you pay them for a health rise) okay, drug dealing okay. You stop bad things from happening in the game. it's not an awful game at all. its hilarious. I'm not a massive fan as I said but it is just a game. films are just films.

I have GTA5 and it is a good game (I must be weird and people here would think less of me but oh well). It's the only game I really like and I am not a 'gamer'. I don't like the close up strip club bits though. But I don't like page 3 etc that is in society in general. I don't therefore do that bit or kill prostitutes. I did do the notorious 'torture' scene and didn't find it that bad? It doesn't have to be taken really seriously..It is meant to reflect a certain aspect of society and ironically.. Free play and music are great and it is very funny in parts. I would be fine with an older teen child that age playing it. Not with a young child though unless I was watching very carefully and they were simply riding a mountain bike etc with sound off!!!

Well this game has a lot to answer for all the reviews I've read lead me to believe it wasn't suitable for my 13yr old ds, big argument re the whole thing last night has meant ds has now effectively run away as no sign of him & he usually gets home from school around 3.30!!! Not entirely sure what to do!!

aquawater · 12/01/2015 18:38

Newyear interesting to hear your perspective. How old were your kids when you let them at GTA?

Lindt70Percent · 12/01/2015 18:43

My son (14) hasn't got this game but plenty of his friends have and he has played it while at their houses.

A mother of one of my son's friends said her sons were only allowed it after they'd written her a 20 page essay on why women are as important as men (or something like that!). Grin Not sure whether they got the game in the end. Must ask DS.

Lindt70Percent · 12/01/2015 18:44

Sorry to hear that Booville3. Hope he's back soon!

Booville3 · 12/01/2015 19:06

Still no sign!!! It's like he is holding me to ransom give me the game or else I don't want to back down to this sort of behaviour but I really want him home now!

Hi there!
Sorry for the late reply,
I'd wait until your son has matured because gta v shows uncensored parts of womens bodies (breasts),
I myself as a 13 year old when i had the game (now 15) only used to really drive in cars and go for "rides".
Nudity is one big issue for youngsters, lol he is a baby teen, I myself was only 13 though only really drove cars.
Also the game when playing online can be intense and go on for hours at a time.
If getting the game, he will be exposed to nudity, though when he is actually playing eg driving cars around and destroying the odd lampost is a much viable option then a trip to the strip club.
Make sure he takes at least a 15 minute break for every hour of play.
Hope this helps,
Also, If your still concerned get him a first person shooter game, l
Although rated mature, no nudity is included but may contain graphical violence in campaign, multiplayer should be fine.
If your confused as hell, dont be shy to ask!! Lol thats what im here for!! :)

Really? I've played GTA, I've shot people, stolen car, gambled thousands and shot at police helicopters, guess what I'm teetotal, non smoking and at the moment I'm homeschooling my son but I've worked. I. Do you still this less of me? A bit of killing after a stressful day does you good. Most teenage boys play these games from a young age and we can still walk down the street so GTA doesn't influence many kids.

womenlover123 · 11/12/2019 21:38

word my son plays it and he is 13 its a good game

Ringdonna · 17/12/2019 13:37
