Teens and driving

What does everyone do for their teens. My dd will be 17 in 3 months and has been very keen on driving as soon as possible, in fact has been talking about it for 2 years. She is still at school and has a Saturday job £25 per week. She so sensible, kind, helpful, studies long hours, she really is a good kid!
Did u buy car?
Insurance?
Lessons and tests?
Add to your insurance?
Leave them to do it themselves when they can afford it?

Insurance is cheaper in the US (with various factors taken into account, including driving the family car) but you would never get a reliable used car for $1000. They tend to be far more expensive and then insurance would be more expensive too. And parking another car would cost an arm and a leg.

We couldn't afford to buy a car, but helped with lessons for DS1 (he paid the rest with his p/t job) and once he was in a full time job helped him get a small old car, and he paid us back in installments.

We switched to Admiral multi car policy for our cars as it was much cheaper for him, (and us too!) and I paid on one go, and again he pays me back in monthly installments.. last insurance was £900 and he was 20. Next year should be cheaper hopefully!

His sisters are 22 and 20 and neither had any interest in learning to drive. Both are at university and the elder one will be a doctor in one more year and has said she will learn then. They have a few friends with cars at uni but many found the cost of keeping them at halls, prohibitive so didn't bother til they were living out.

I wish we could have paid for them all, but none of them have complained :)
