Hello. On Saturday my 15 year old ds is having a wisdom tooth extracted (from his gum - eek) under GA. They're whipping out a couple of ordinary teeth while he's asleep as well. I would be really grateful for any advice from anyone who has had this done or cared for a child who has had this done. Please don't tell me any horror stories though as I'm already nervous! How long for the mouth to recover? And what on earth will I feed him on - he eats loads normally but he doesn't like soup. How long can a teenager live on yoghurt???

This is just the start of orthodontic treatment - we have two years with a brace next!

Dd had an impacted tooth removed last summer at 15. I was really worried, friends advice was get soft food and complan etc I was prepared with pain killers and for her to be out of sorts for a week.
She came round from the ga smiling and was eating fish and chips thst night, and just had one ibroprufen that night just in case. Back to normal next day.

My ds had his first general aged 3 weeks. Dd had one at 1 and ds is due another one at 2. Both of them recovered well from it.

I had my wisdom teeth out and some beside the wisdom teeth too. My face was swollen and it was a bit sore. I ate a lot of and mashed potato. Ensure you have a good supply of paracetamol/ibuprofen in. Mine healed very quickly.

Soup that was meant to say! I think I only had soft food for a day or two.

Thank you! Fingers crossed that he'll recover quickly. Mashed potato - that's a good idea. Maybe I'll make a shepherds pie :) I will stock up on painkillers.

I had all 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed at the same time. Ice on the face for 24 hours helped a great deal for pain and swelling. It took days before I could eat properly though.

I was 15 when I had 2 wisdom teeth, 2 molars and lots of stray 'bits' of teeth removed under GA. I had a bad reaction to the GA, and was quite sick. My face swelled up horrendously and it was about a week before I could face anything close to normal food. It was another week before I stopped falling asleep at the drop of a hat!
Food wise - yoghurt, custard, mashed potato, poached fish, soup, pureed food. I tried shepherds pie and found the little bits of mince very painful. Ice cream was also good.

Sounds like I had better get the blender out. What about pasta, over-cooked? Would that work?

As i said above friends recommended complan milkshakes

I wouldn't have managed pasta for a good week.
I couldn't chew anything. Also small bits of food got caught in the stitches which was very painful/uncomfortable.
