Just that really, feel so sorry for my 17 year old as he was hoping to get a permanent Job at the end of it and it finishes on Tuesday.
He's been waiting over a week to find out, and he feels awful bless him, I know some Teens get a bad press and he does have his moments, but he really is a lovely young man, the firm want him but don't have the finances Sad

Poor thing. Of course he's disappointed and upset. On a brighter note he has successfully completed an apprenticeship, has learned some valuable skills and it sounds like the firm will give him a good reference. Good luck to him.

Such a shame.
I think that apprenticeships can be worthwhile but sadly many companies treat them like the old YTS schemes. When the cheap, subsidised year is up they get rid of the apprentice and take on a new one.
I've seen this happen where I work (NHS) so it's not just unscrupulous small companies.
All those encouraging their DC to take an apprenticeship instead of staying at school should be very careful about what they choose.

Thank you both, at least it's another certificate under his belt, and me and his grandad will help him as much as possible, at least it's given him a taste of work and he wants to carry on, he's been saving half his money too incase he never got took on, hopefully something better is out there for him xGrin

Feel sorry for him - that must feel awful. On the positive, the firm wanted him so will give him a glowing reference and he has some great experience. Does the firm have an HR department/person who could give him assistance with a CV or interview skills? Make sure he asks them to keep him in mind if something comes up in the future.

He should just apply and apply for jobs. Don't get disheartened if he doesn't hear anything as not all applications are looked at but perseverance is the key. If he can't get a job straightaway is there a course he could do to further his skills or broaden them? He sounds very keen so I'm sure something will come up.
