DS1 (16) is an habitual liar. Sigh.

My otherwise charming and engaging DS has got into the habit of lying about everything, every little detail of his life. He is so bloody obvious when he is doing it he might as well walk around with a handbell. Nobody believes a word he says any more because it's so ubiquitous. I don't know what to do as I am fed up of expressing disgust. Anyone got any suggestions?

Update:

Lying appears to have stopped, as far as I can tell.
Improvement in academic work has taken place (verifiable with teachers)
Actually he's a lot nicer now the electronics are out of his room. I did let him keep the Raspberry Pi he got for Christmas, though, and he promptly set up up of a vintage console, but as this involves him coding and putting a bit of effort in, I don't mind that. Plus he's not on it as much.
