ds1 is your archetypal tall, lanky, geeky, scruffy, doesn't-care-what-he-looks-like 16 yr-old.

Currently he also has long, lanky hair, which is usually greasy.

I don't mind him having long hair, if that's what he chooses, but I would prefer it if it were trimmed to a STYLE.

Can anyone suggest a website where he can choose a hairstyle, then take a pic along to a salon...

Or any other advice welcome!

What's he into? What do his friends look like? Does he disagree with your opinion? Does he have a girlfriend?
DD currently has hair styles after an anime character. DS is going for Victorian Romantic/Steampunk.

A girlfriend?!! Ha ha ha ha!
No

He is "into" sci-fi, card games called Magic the Gathering and Yu-gi-oh and various tabletop and board games. He also likes Big Bang Theory and similar; avid cinema-goer.

It'll grow into some vague semblance of a style. All you can encourage him to do is to have a regular trim and force him in the shower to wash it. My eldest son was the same at 16, and now at 21 has the most beautiful, waist length, thick, blond hair. He also has a ginger beard and the nickname of Thor.

Rock on Madlizzy's son!

So many possible hairstyles in Yu gi oh.

Seriously though, if it really matters to you and he's indifferent, bribe him with something he wants to get what you want.

He is the twin of my 15 year old.

I've given up, as long as he washes it frequently. It is a nightmare getting him to shave the patches of beard which are sparsely sprouting too.

SilverApples · 14/01/2014 19:29

Yes, I'd go for clean first, style later.

Only way I've found to get DH to get his hair cut is to find a really lovely hair dresser, who he fancies.

Even then only about 2 a year

Mabelface · 14/01/2014 19:37

isitsnowing - he is very, very awesome. He also fancies himself as a bit of a rock god and is a guitar playing thrash monster. :D

bubby64 · 15/01/2014 00:48

my 2 moan whenever I mention haircuts. They are growing theirs quite long at the moment, but, must admit, they do wash it regularly and also comb it, as they have girlfriends who insist upon it!

wordfactory · 15/01/2014 09:49

Leave it, it'll grow into the surfer style.

But insist he keep it clean. Lynx have a shampoo called Detox, which is meant to strip products, but is also the ticket for grease and dirt and general boy-slime!

And be glad you DS doesn't have a style which requires time in the mornings Grin.

steppemum · 15/01/2014 10:06

my 11 year old has longish hair and spends AGES messing with it.

Not having a style is his style. Make sure he keeps it clean, and leave him be and choose your battles

Travelledtheworld · 15/01/2014 17:11

I drag my Ds 14 screaming to the barbers and go for a classic clippers on the back and sides but longer on the top.

He is anti fashion and doesn't care about having a look. I just want him to be clean and respectable looking.

Anything but that floppy brushed onto the face look.......

Weelady77 · 16/01/2014 14:30

I have 2 sons ds1 is 18 and couldn't care how his hair looks although he does wash it everyday

Ds2 is 15 and could put some women to shame, he spends ages on his hair and got to have the proper products!!
