Calling all parents of teens. DS1 is in luuuurrrrve. Higher prelims in a few weeks, Highers in a few months. Studying for said Highers appears to have taken a bit of a back seat while he studies the contents of her pants instead.

We are having a barney family meeting tonight about how his work/life balance - what's acceptable across the week, do you think? I want to be forearmed and ready to deal with the inevitable potential objections he might have when I announce his love life is about to be curtailed somewhat.

I'm sorry for my ignorance in not knowing what Highers & Prelims are. I'm guessing that Highers are what you do when you're 18 and Prelims are the trial/mock/practice exams?

If so, then I would tell him that you are trusting him to manage his own time while he prepares for the mock exams. Then if when he fails them from spending too much time 'courting', you can step in and lay down the law before he messes up his Highers.

Highers are what you sit when you are 17 - so sort of like A levels. We sit Highers in 5th year when we're 17, Advanced Highers when we're 18 and in our final year of High School.

I want to let him manage his own time, but equally I want to set parameters iykwim - for her sake as well as his.

We've just worked out a timetable which suits both of us...hopefully that's clarified things on both sides!
