Very hungry teenager

No sooner is dinner over than DS asking what he can eat.

I don't keep junk food in the house so it's bread or fruit.

How do you keep your hungry teenage dc full? I have started to make more puddings e.g. apple crumble, which always goes down well, but don't have time to do it every day.

No answer I'm afraid, my DS14 is exactly the same. We can hear the fridge door going about 30 minutes after a meal!

Bigger portions or extra carbs with a meal (bread roll etc) and a pudding!

Dd 13 is the same. I've been making lots of hearty homemade soups, butternut squash and lentil, potato and leek, chicken and rice.
Dd enjoys a bowl when she comes in from school.

High protein foods are the most filling. Try bigger portions of meat, things like nuts and eggs are good too. I'm a fan of puddings too!

My 6 foot tall 13 year old eats constantly and seems to consume buckets
full of cereal.
Get him some of that instant oatmeal in different flavours for a quick, easy to microwave hot snack. Or just porridge oats.
Tinned soup, baked beans, custard.
Toasted sandwiches are a popular snack in this family too. Get him to make his own.

Same here with almost 16 year old DS. Massive growth spurt means he is just topping six feet tall, but with no bulk to him. He does lots of sport so is permanently starving. He likes pasta ( with grated cheese stirred through) which is cheap, filling and he makes it himself, noodles, cereal, cheese toasties, ( whole meal bread, especially granary seems to be more filling) flapjack, bananas, yogurt smoothie with banana which he makes himself, lots of milk. He has worked out for himself that other snacks like biscuits and crisps don't actually fill you up so I've stopped buying them more or less at all, which is cheaper.

I have a 17 year old food hoover, too. His favourites are bowls of cereal or porridge.
It is disheartening when I have spent ages preparing a filling meal for him and within 30 minutes he is on the rummage of the cupboards again!! Hmm very expensive, too

DS who is still only 12 but as big as DH, is always hungry. He does loads of sport too, which burns it off.

Toast and peanut butter with a glass of milk seems to be a good one and easy. And more protein with his meals. DH is finding it hard to adjust to DS needing as much food as him!

FWIW, I don't think cereal is that filling, unless it is porridge!

Weetabix here. We should have shares in it, or at least the Aldi version!

He gets 72 REAL weetabix at Xmas and birthdays LOLOL!

He eats 4 plus shreddies after school and sometimes supper too.

THe 14yr old eats huge meals too but not the cereal amounts!

Neither are overweight but DS is tall and getting a "rugby build" slowly

Unfortunately ds doesn't like cereal or porridge and doesn't drink milk either.

This is a typical week for 14yr DS. Close to six foot and skinny as a rake. I had to sort out this menu (and another one to turn over every fortnight) to stop the endless "what is there to eat"? Takes a bit of planning but it's made life a lot easier accepting that they want to eat six times a day !

Monday:
Breakfast: three scrambled eggs on brown toast.
Mid morning snack: cereal bar.
Packed lunch: leftover Sunday lunch sandwich, two satsumas, yoghurt.
Mid afternoon (on the bus home) snack: veggie samosa, fruit.
Supper: spaghetti pesto - big bowl.
Mid evening snack: Pot noodle.

Tuesday:
Breakfast: eggs and bacon.
Mid morning snack: ham and cheese croissant.
Packed lunch: mozzarella and tomato baguette, banana, yoghurt.
Mid afternoon (on the bus home) snack: Mars Bar, apple.
Supper: chicken stir fry with savoury rice, salad
Mid evening snack: toast and marmalade.

Wednesday:
Breakfast: porridge.
Mid morning snack: egg sandwich
Packed lunch: chicken salad pitta bread (from last nights stir fry), two satsumas, yoghurt.
Mid afternoon (on the bus home) snack: bread pudding.
Supper: lamb chops, smashed potatoes, brocoli, salad.
Mid evening snack: bag of peanuts.

Thursday
Breakfast: kippers.
Mid morning snack: lamb samosa.
Hot school lunch, fruit.
Mid afternoon (on the bus home) snack: bread pudding again.
Supper: soup, whatever fish looks good in the market, veg, salad, apple pie.
Mid evening snack: cheese and crackers.

Friday
Breakfast: warm banana milk shake with big dollop of honey.
Mid morning snack: cornish pasty (shop bought).
Packed lunch: pitta breads with ham, cheese and tomato, fruit.
Mid afternoon (on the bus home) snack: last nights apple pie.
Supper: pizza (homemade), ribs, raw carrot and cucumber dips.
Mid evening snack: bread and jam.

Weekends = chaos as also have DD9 and DS7 and if anyone dares ask "is there anything to eat" the answer is always "fruit".

I work from home so Im lucky that I have the time to do all the cooking and prep etc while the client thinks I'm slaving over a hot computer.
