just dropped my eldest at university - he couln't wait for us to go - part of me feels mission accomplished - he's so ready to be there - the rest of me is in bits. that just wasn't long enough with him. i can't believe his 'home time' is over. his sister misses him, I miss him and I just feel empty. when will this pain end?

I'm a week on. Left dd last Sunday. She's homesick now and planning a weekend home visit

mine is into his second year and stays at home and I wish he was away! funny but i think being away would be so good for him!

it will be christmas soon op x

It is really hard - but it's a job well done. Congratulate yourself for having raised a confident, clever adult. And he'll always be your boy - that never changes. The missing him bit does get easier.

Uni terms are short. He will soon be back for the Christmas holidays with a big bag of washing and requests for his favourite home cooking! Grin.
It does get easier.

thanks for the encouragement guys - just can't stop crying - feel a bit of a wuss. you are all right - he's a fine boy and i'm very proud - just feeling sorry for myself - and old - i guess i'm not ready to be the mum of a uni student - still 18 in my head and don't understand why my mum keeps looking back at me in the mirror. secret bit of envy if i'm honest - whole life in front of him - i'm sure it'l be fine:}

jesneep DH and I took our youngest to university 2 weeks ago. I felt very sad coming home but she made friends with her flat mates straight away. She did feel a bit homesick last week. But she's perked up again and although I still miss her it's getting better now. Anyway forgot to say there is a big empty nest support thread over on Higher education. The thread is now well into part 2 so come over and join us all.

Jesneep there are several of us who over the last couple of weeks have been where you are now. there is a really good thread over on HE here that many mners have taken comfort from. You're not alone and though I'm only a week in, I'm not nearly as weepy as I was last sunday/monday. Is your ds a long way away?

Another one in bits....Hmm

Just dropped my 16.5 year old (!) at college to live in.

He started with everyone else at the beginning of last month and was living at home, getting a (long) bus in. Then made friends (he has been a bit of a loner all through secondary). He us the only one from his secondary going to this College. A few weeks ago, asked to "live in"

Lots of long discussion, heart searching. I know he's ready - it's just me that's not!! He's only 16 FFS. And the first one of my 3dc to go
