She had awkward feet and sensory issues, she lives in Converse and we found black leather ones. There is no colour on them at all. She wears trousers so it's not as if you can really see them away.

I keep telling her they are no different to a pair of lace up Kickers or the like. She's now worried about being told off.

She's 15 and is upstairs crying dramatically and banging doors.
Give me strength Hmm.

totally know what you mean.

have you tried asking on the SN board about shoes? lots of people on there whose kids have sensory issues, so might be someone who has BTDT and can suggest some?>

in fact, i seem to recall hearing good things about the vivo barefoot shoes, I think tyou'd have to order online and return if they were no good though, which could be a hassle.
but they're designed to be very soft and lightweight

cocolepew · 13/08/2013 16:14

Thanks I'll have a look Smile

I was so pissed off because I asked her loads of times to make sure she was happy with me buying them. I should have guessed this would happen still, it's enevitable with her really. It can get very wearing, but I she can't help it.

My dd has wide feet too (see my would your yr 7 dd wear these school shoes thread) & converse fit her fine. Have you tried Start rite brogues. No good for dd as they don't start til bigger sizes.

They would be borderline at dds school depending on how trainer like they look.

katydid02 · 13/08/2013 16:25

My DCs both have H width feet and Converse fit them fine. I hope you manage to find some shoes that she is comfortable wearing.

cocolepew · 13/08/2013 16:29

She has tried them on with her school trousers. Being short in the legs her trousered are long, you can hardly see any shoe. They don't look like trainers, they look similar to my mums Ecco lace ups Hmm.

Thanks for all your replies Smile

I've bought black converse for my DD today (14yrs), she had them last term too. I found that she went thru far too many school shoes so at least I know these ones will last. Wearing Converse last year wasn't a problem last year so I'm hoping a teacher doesn't say anything this year.

thisisyesterday · 13/08/2013 16:50

i must just have fat feet then :-D

sashh · 13/08/2013 16:56

Dear Head,

As you know my daughter has some special needs including sensory issues. We have been unable to find school shoes in line with school policy I am therefore rewquesting a reasonable adjustment under the DDA and Equalities act that she ba allowed to wear plain black converse with trousers.

If you are unable to make this adjustment please give me written reasons why within three days.

Thank you

Your school uniform policy sounds similar to ours - the practical tests the form tutor/head of year apply are (a) can any label/brand be seen on the outside and (b) can the shoes be polished?

I began to doubt myself last night but DH thought they were fine. Her trousers cover the logo so I don't think that will be a problem. DD needs constant reassurance and I'm ashamed to admit that sometimes it gets very wearing.
Thanks again for replying.

YOU wear them !!!!!

I bought my DD a pair of bright pink converse for her birthday and she hated them , so I was like "FFS" ..... But instead of taking them back I slipped those bad boys on myself, looked at myself and decided I looked the dogs boll in them ....., RESULT

MarianForrester · 14/08/2013 19:33

I have just this minute been speaking to a pair of teenagers (not mine!) who have told me that black trainer/high top things are accepted by school.

Tell her not to worry, it will be fine.

cocolepew · 14/08/2013 19:55

Haha don't tempt me mumof3. I already have about 6 pairs of Converse Grin

DD seems OK with them today. DH had been told what happened so he was primes last night to say the right things when she showed them to him.

She needs constant reassurance until she's happy with something but for some reason never seems to believe me when I say something is ok Confused.

She will be fine, she's quiet and academic. Her teachers aren't going to be the slightest bit fussed by what she has on her feet.
