Which sanitary towels does your daughter use?

My daughter has just started her periods and I'd bought some Lillets teen towels in preparation, but from what she said they won't be absorbent enough when she has to go 3/4 hours at school without changing.

Can others let me know what your daughter likes to use please? My daughter is only 11 and tiny (140cm) so having to think about how big they are as well. I know I may have to buy a couple of brands for her to try, but don't want to end up buying the whole store!

are they the ones in the thick paper packet pretty colours?
dd had them, she's also tiny
now she has poundshop or own-brand with wings and small applicator tampons sometimes eg swimming
size doesn't seem to matter

DD2 is 11 uses the teen ones and has been ok so far. DD1 has very heavy periods and uses Aways extra long.
DD2 is tiny and any other ones annoy her.

Dd started her periods just after Christmas aged 10y though she was taller. She's 11y now. She started using the teen range from Lillets. But she quickly found that they weren't really sufficient. She now used the normal Always ones generally. She also has the ones with the wings and has night ones or extra long for first days.

I got the Lillets starter pack initially as it came with a nice little pouch too which is useful to have in her bags when out or at school.

Dd tried tampons when we were at centre parks but she really didn't like them.

My daughter hasn't started, so can't comment on what she prefers. I've bought her a selection and have had a little look at them.

I've got some of the Lillets ones like you which seem nice and soft. I know they do ones for ladies so it might be worth you taking a look at them. Bodyform with and without wings and Always without. The Bodyform do seem to be a bit more shaped so maybe more comfortable for a smaller girl. The wings look quite big but that may not bother her and would be handy for night-time use. Hope my comments with help.

My 16 year old switched to tampons last summer and moans that I didn't introduce her to them earlier! Before that I had to scoure shops for ones without wings. She has some sensory issues and hated wings with a passion. Her favourite were always silk.

Why should she have to go 3-4 hours without changing?
My DD's secondary only goes 2 hours before a break.

DD1 started on Always Normal, (now progressed to tampons).

witchofmiddx · 08/08/2013 16:53

My dd is 16 in Sept and still not started. All her friends however use tampons, and she wants to when she starts. Is there any reason your dd's use towels at the beginning?

ihearsounds · 08/08/2013 17:02

Dd's either use bodyform or always. Tried own brands but for various reasons they didn't like them. Asked them if they wanted to try tampons, replied in school only the skets use them.

Tigerblue · 08/08/2013 17:07

Thanks for your replies (so far). She said she doesn't fancy trying Tampons, although, I'm hoping she will give them ago when her periods have settled down.

TeenandTween, she leaves the house around 8.10am (and walks with a large group of friends so wouldn't want to leave earlier on her own). They go straight into registration and then their break is 11.15am. They are not allowed to be late for lessons (although I may give her a covering letter in case she thinks she really needs to change), so my daughter would be reliant on whether a particular tutor would let her leave the lesson. Luckily lunch is two hours later, so it's only really the morning at school she has to worry, I'm just trying to make things easier for her for the next one.

DD uses Always in the purple packet. I bought her the teen ones before she started as she had made it clear she didn't want to use tampons but she has very heavy periods so the teen ones were no good.
She has just started using tampons, she's 13 and started 18 months ago but she says she doesn't want to use them all the time yet.

Nanny01 · 08/08/2013 22:41

Has any one using cloth San pro I use cloth and disposable. Don't want to force her either way. Some days cloth cause I have ecsma and cloth is softer other times disposable.

Notmyidea · 08/08/2013 23:13

Both mine have used Always (green packet) since starting at age 10.

Tigerblue · 09/08/2013 14:43

Thanks for your replies. She is adamant she doesn't want to use tampons at the moment, which is fine while we gauge the flow. Might suggest she tries some for a couple of months before a holiday, so she won't have to miss out on swimming if on.

Anyway, have been and raided the shops today. I bought some Always and Bodyform without wings, and also came across some in a yellow packet by Lillets with wings - had a look at one of them and they are certainly bigger than the teen ones and feel soft.
