Worried about poorly DS

He's 17.
Has flu like illness for the third time in a month.
He started on Saturday and by Monday he was having intense shivers every few hours, so bad I took him to A&E at 1am. Of course by the time we got there thing had calmed down a bit. They said it was viral and sent us home. An hour later he started again, freezing hands and feet, violent shivers. Classic fever symptoms I suppose.
Just been to GP who has done bloods and urine test. His temp was okay when we were there but he started shivering as we saw the nurse and she was quite concerned.
Going back tomorrow. Meanwhile he's alternating paracetamol and ibuprofen. Sad

No advice, but how horrible for you and him. I hope you get a proper diagnosis soon.

NewFairy · 07/08/2013 18:03

Also, might it be worth posting in health as well?

TheRealFellatio · 07/08/2013 18:03

Glandular fever? Very common at his age.

I wondered about GF. Will ask when we go tomorrow. It's tricky at his age as medics want to speak to him as the patient but he is shy and reticent at the best of times so I have taken over. He's also very anti pills and reluctant to go to doctors. The fact that he asked to go tells me how ill he feels.

How's your DS now?
Hoping he's feeling better.

secretscwirrels · 09/08/2013 09:48

newfairy Thanks for asking. He has had a full night without the shivers so I think he's on the mend. Also ate some breakfast. He hadn't eaten since Monday.
You'd think getting up all night with poorly children was a thing of the past when they are teenagers but this has been just like having a poorly baby (for me anyway).
Results were not at docs yesterday so we are back this morning.
