Where do teenage girls shop? I am looking for a pair of cream/tan chinos for a 13yr old.

Try eBay!

sharond101 · 29/05/2013 22:30

Do they get the adult sizes or do these stores do childrens sizes to that age group?

Dd buys adult sizes but she is tall.

Dumbledoresgirl · 29/05/2013 22:43

DD can wear adult size 8 skirts as long as they are short ones. They equate to about age 13 skirts. We once held up some children's age 13 shorts to adult size 8 shorts and found they were about the same size too. But long trousers, or tops with long sleeves are no-go for my dd. Teens obviously don't have as long arms or legs as adults. Hmm

bigTillyMint · 29/05/2013 22:47

Sharond, DD gets the adult sizes. She is only 5'2", but they seem to be OK on length. Sometimes the sleeves are a bit long, but nothing too bad!

Startail · 29/05/2013 23:51

Sleeve length had me and the lady in country wide pulling our hair out.

Living in a horsey area, she was forever getting teen girls in wanting waterproof jackets. Kids sleeves, finished at teens elbows, even if they were skinny enough to get the jacket on and adult sleeves were way too long.

However, my real nightmare was getting tops for DD1 between 9 and 12. She was rather plump. Kids stuff was too tight, but adult stuff was all cut for boobs, at the time mostly very low. Without boobs it was positively indecent.

Fortunately she then shot up, slimed out and developed curves and now can buy clothes quite easily.

DD2 being so much slighter, will be able to stay in children's tops until she is adult shaped which makes life so much easier.

The choice of non pink and childish older girls tops is still not great. They do jump from Hello Kitty, to sculls and goth crucifixes both of which I hate.

DD1 buys her t-shirts from Topshop and Republic, none she wears have 'slutty' slogans.

DD2 is a skinny 10yo and wears clothes from Tesco and Primark.

Nutellamum · 30/05/2013 21:52

Just joined mn as taking dd13 clothes shopping tomorrow & have no idea where to go. hollister & JW far too expensive for anything other than Xmas treat. Thanks for top tips. Will see if top shop works - just have bad memories of always being too large for anything there back in the day!

lljkk · 30/05/2013 21:55

In Top Shop, spent £38 for a single pair of jeans for my 13yo DS today (sob). I pray for the day when he reaches an ordinary size (like 30R!).
He got some Chinos, too, quite a bargain at a mere £24 the pair.

bigTillyMint · 30/05/2013 22:11

lljkk What about Primark for Chinos - think DS's were £7 or £9 and they do 26" waist!

sharond101 · 30/05/2013 22:49

Will try Primark, New Look and H&M, thank youx

My dd bought two dresses, a Donna Karan top and a brand new unworn Ted Baker bikini for a total of 30 quid from local charity shops today.......

MummyPig24 · 31/05/2013 07:44

Dh and I went into Hollister on a rare shopping trip without children. I knew we were getting old when we went in there! You can't even see what you are buying, and the smell!

Anyway when I was a teenager (which wasn't very long ago) I shopped in TopShop, Primark, H&M, Oasis, New Look, Miss Selfridge (not sure if that exists any more).

Dumpylump · 31/05/2013 07:52

New Look here is pretty good actually, they have a 9-15 range which is where dsd2 gets most of her jeans, leggings and shorts. She's a size 8 on top, and gets most of her t shirts and other tops from Top Shop or Republic if I'm paying, and Primark or H & M if she's using her own money!
Her favourite t shirts at the moment are adorned with moustaches, owls, or say GEEK....none of which I find "slutty"

gillywillywoo · 31/05/2013 08:01

Primark or new look are probably best for a 13 year old.

gillywillywoo · 31/05/2013 08:01

Or forever 21.

gillywillywoo · 31/05/2013 08:02

And H+M!

notso · 31/05/2013 08:24

DD is 13 and loves;
Hollister, shop online unless you have a Head Torch, Gas mask, plenty to spend and are completely comfortable with your age. The delivery is £10 but IMO it's worth paying £10 not to have to go in there!
Jack Wills,
American Apparel,
New Look,
Primark,
H&M
Bank

Ebay do outlet versions of most of the pricier shops.

lljkk · 31/05/2013 20:42

Thanks for the Primark tip, I didn't find any in localish Primark when I looked before, but will always check in future.

Ebay isn't bad, either, but sizing always tricky (don't ever like buying clothes mail order).

bigTillyMint · 31/05/2013 22:10

lljkk, DS's Primarni Chino's are mens ones when you look!

ShotgunNotDoingThePans · 31/05/2013 22:24

DD(15) likes Primark. She's now a womanly-sized 12, but from about aged 11 - 13 (she was chunky for her age), we used to find things in M&Co, H&M, Peacocks, M&S occasionally, Animal and River Island.

She's never worn anything 'slutty', nor would she.

lljkk · 31/05/2013 22:27

I meant I couldn't find anything 26 or 28 inch waist, but I hate Primark, break out in a sweat whenever I set foot in there, so may not have spent long enough looking. or they may have been out of stock on the day.

JugglingChaotically · 01/06/2013 12:16

Johnie B on Boden works for my DD.

Theas18 · 02/06/2013 08:55
