My daughter is schoolphobic and today has received notification that she has to attend tests at school next week. Please, does anyone know how academically and legally these are rated. I have found conflicting results today. Thank you. Faith.

has she ever gone to school faith?im sure if you spoke to the school they would arrange for her to do the papers with a support worker. ive worked with school phobics and we collect them from the office when mum/dad drop them off, give em loads of tlc and sit with them while they do their papers.

school phobic is awful, its a real problem for these kids isnt it and awful for you. good luck, im sure the school will be supportive

Thanks for the reply 7up. My daughter did go to school until last year. Following bullying she no longer feels that she can. When I asked the school if she could just go into the hall to sit the tests and then return home, I was told that she would have to go to her registration class first - I consider this to be inflexible and totally unfeeling. I am really considering taking her out of the system all together but am very aware that the decision I make will affect the rest of he life.

Hiya
sorry you are having such a hard time and your dd for that matter. Secondary school is horrible isn't it?
Anyway re sats and cats, what would happen if your dd was attending school normally and was ill the week of the tests? They would just mark it as 'did not sit test' wouldn't they? I would contact your LEA (if you haven't already) and let them know how unhelpful the school are being, they may be able to help negotiate a way through this. Hope this makes sense, am rushing to go out.
Good luck

hi faith, sneaky message from work!i cant believe that your school is so unhelpful, surely they must have a special needs co-ordinator?i would speak to the head and tell him that your dd needs support and thats the end of it. as for saying she has to go to registration, thats awful. what a huge thing for your dd to do, how intimidating is that to walk into a classroom full of kids who she doesnt really know. it really pisses me off that certain schools think school phobics are skivers and they are not.Angry

Just an update. My daughter was prepared last night to sit the tests at school today - when it came to it she couldn't! She is now very tearful and upset because she really wanted to sit these. I have now found from my LEA that she can sit them at home with her tutor. The school told me noting of this and I am now waiting for the examination officer (based at the school) to get back to me with a day I can pick up the tests from the school. It seems to me that schools do not take conditions, such as schoolphobia as serious. It is so distressing and frustrating.
