How to boost teen's low self esteem

My 15yo DD has much to be happy about, and should be proud of herself, but isn't, any longer...how can I help her? She is pretty, super intelligent, witty and good company, but she cannot think of anything good about herself. She is having counselling at school and has had an appt with CAMHS due to self harm, another booked for this week.

Any ideas on how I can help her feel better about herself welcome Sad

Hi have been there with my DD 17 I gathered some photos of her together showing her doing some normal stuff eg 1st day at school, swimming on holiday, holding her pet cat, parties etc. I reminded her of how happy she was on those occasions. My daughter wouldnt talk to me and we had weekly sessions at CAMHS its still a struggle but getting better.

I've just been reading my dd's American Girl "A smart girl's guide to liking herself - even on the bad days". It's all about self esteem. My dd's only 10 and so still full of confidence but I have found this series of books to be good and want her to be prepared for that teen onslaught of self-doubt. The books might be aimed at a younger audience than your dd but I have found them quite good though maybe there's a similar book aimed at older children like your dd, I found these on Amazon and really like the dip in and out aspect of them so that I hope my dd will pick them up anytime.
