Dd is 16 on Saturday. She is having a rough time of it lately due to impending gcse's, being dumped by the boy she thought was the one and the general pressures of being a teenage girl. I want to get her a present which will show how proud of her i am and also make her feel special. Am on a tight budget cos her main present is for us to finance her prom night so am hoping for inspiration from others.

What did your mum do or get for you that really touched or inspired you ?

How about some costume jewellry suitable to wear on her prom night?

Nice idea except that she hasn't chosen her dress yet so wouldn't know what style/colour.

Was wondering about an empowering/inspirational book or film. Any ideas?

Friends of mine laid on a posh dinner party for their dd at this age - invited a few friends, dressed up, allowed a little wine plus 'grown-up' food and candles. Made them all feel very special.

Might she like something like 'Divine secrets of the YaYa susterhood'? Its about relationships between women and mothers and daughters.

Book, not film though.

(love the dinner party idea though)

wd dd3 was 16 last week
we bought her a hot pink sapphire and diamond ring
We also bought dd1 and dd2 a special ring for their 16th.

we are saving prom night for special too
looking at the price of limos and whoa they are expensiveShock

Dinner party idea great, her friend is going to the pictures with her and has arranged for 15 of her closest friends to meet them there as a surprise, but might feed them over easter holidays.
Ex-h is financing limo, £40 each, and her ticket£a5. That leaves me with dress, shoes, bag, hair and make-up!
Book sounds good thanks.

How about writing her a letter saying how proud of her you are, put in a bit about your hopes for her future, mention her successes, her friendships and maybe a couple of funny anecdotes. I have a letter my mum wrote me when I left home (I was 22 though) and I treasure it. Perhaps roll up the letter, tie it with a ribbon and tie it round the neck of a pink teddy? I found mine sitting on my bed one day and I was choked!
