Bra's again

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2012 15:41

So DD has grown out of the 28B bra's I bought her a couple of months ago. I have measured her and she is 27"/69cm below and 32 1/2"/83cm across the bust. She wants non-wired white that won't show under her school shirt.

As there are no bra's smaller than 28", this makes her a 28C or D, but I can't seem to find any. And the underwired ones aren't cheap, given that she seems to trash them fairly quickly.

Any ideas?

Go to Bravissimo.. to be honest there aren't many places and Bravissimo measure properly.. (unlike M+S..do NOT go there!) Actually Bravissimo are trained so they can pretty much look at a person and bring out a handful of suitable bras!

My DD2 is now 18 and a 28J Shock she pretty much went up a cupe size every few months until she was 17.. it was a bit scary but we think/hope she has finally stopped. My other daughter is a 28DD..both very narrow backed.

She really does need underwiring once past a B cup. I hate the cost.. mine (no boobs!) cost me £5 in Primark..my daughters' are £30 each.. sigh..

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2012 16:40

OMG, 28JShock

Like you, I am flat-chested and can get cheapo bras - bit of a shock when your just 13yo is 3 sizes bigger than you whilst being tres petite all over - I am not!Smile

Do Bravissimo have shops (only seen online)? Will google.

John Lewis.com do white non wired bras in a 28c.

Marks and Spencers have underwired ones and sports bras as well.

Sorry, can't link I am on the iPad.

bigTillyMint · 24/08/2012 16:54

Thanks LoSaG - the JL ones look hopeful. I'm just wincing because I used to get 2-packs for less than that from M&S for her!

I am 30 E or F and I find quite a few everyday bras in Debenams, otherwise Bravissimo as recommended, sometimes TK Maxx if you have one near you.

GnomeDePlume · 25/08/2012 20:42

Are you in the midlands? If so it would be well worth a trip to the Eveden factory shop in Desborough, Northants.

They have lovely branded bras (freya, fantasie etc) and will measure your DD properly. The ladies who do the measuring are fully qualified and lovely.

I took DD there for the first time when she was around 15. She was a bit shy to start with but the atmospere is so friendly and helpful she now asks to go every few months.

As the bras are so nice she is happy to hand wash them herself.

bigTillyMint · 25/08/2012 22:33

I'm in London so should, in theory, have loads of choice! Got Debehams and lots of TKMaxx's and the inlaws caravan site is up that way so maybe we could take a trip out there.

Can't believe your DD does handwashingShock!!!

GnomeDePlume · 26/08/2012 01:40

One of the useful things the factory shop does is show on the till receipt what the retail price was. At worst the discount is 50% at best it is around 75%. This means that she is wearing bras with a reatil price of 30-45, that helps focus the mind!

bigTillyMint · 26/08/2012 14:35

The added problem is they have to be white or nude - most of the bra's I've seen online are bright colours and not very teenagery for an only 13yoSad

gnomedeplume the desborough shop is great but the choice in 28 back is very limited - mum parents live near there and we went over specifically for dd2, but didn't really get much success. We couldn't get swimwear to fit even there.

I get her panache tango 2 balcony bras from ebay having had her fitted in bravissimo. It's the only style that really fits well being small in the back even for a 28. THey are fairly " modest" in design- cup coverage and not transparent . You can get white/nude but not cheaply. The colours are nice though and teenagery (pink/purple/deep blue) - if you buy last years colour then you pay about £14.99.

She's now a 28F going on for an FF... and just 13 too. She's had these bras since age 11 in different sizes. Interestingly she wears blue school shirts and none of the colours show- mind you I doubt she takes her jumper off much either.

SorrelForbes · 27/08/2012 14:28

Debenhams' own brand come in a 28 back and has a good range of cup sizes.

I would recommend underwiring too (most fitters are happy with that if the child is older than 13/14.)

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2012 17:31

Thanks! I am dragging her into John Lewis when we go to Westfield next week for the Olympics despite her majorly protesting - will get her fitted and if nothing suitable there, will try Debenhams and other places.

Apparently she only wants Tshirt bra's and they have to be white/nude under her white school shirt....

I'd be interested to know what success you have as I'm in a similar position with DD2 who is very narrow and currently in a 28B but really needs a 26C (which isn't made). There must be other very slim teens out there who have a chest!
DD has had to go into underwires as we couldn't find anything else and doesn't mind them now. But if anyone ever sees a 26C anywhere, let me know!

bigTillyMint · 29/08/2012 18:46

musicposy, that's the same as my DD. Well she probably needs 26D! There is a woman who goes to my gym who looks about the same size as DD (though probably a bigger cup!) - I should ask her, but it's a bit embarrassing!

OP posts:
musicposy · 30/08/2012 22:34

bigTillyMint I suspect I am going to be in exactly your position 6 months down the line. As a 28 is really too big round the band as it is (she has it on the tightest clip and it's still loose), I cannot see any way a 30 is going to fit her as she grows in cup size. It's annoying as her elder sister has all these lovely, hardly worn, outgrown bras - in various cup sizes of 30. They are never going to fit DD2, sadly, because she is outgrowing the cup sizes before being wide enough to fit the band size.

If you go to a specialist/ proper bra supplier and have any luck, let me know. And ask the woman at the gym, go on! Grin

bigTillyMint · 30/08/2012 22:38

I am taking her on Monday (well, may have to frogmarch her into the bra department, God knows what I will do with DS meanwhile...!) so I will report back.

I suspect the petite and very pretty woman at the gym wears far racier numbers than DD would dare to put on. She looks like she might be Spanish or Italian - maybe they do smaller sizes? Zara clothes are far smaller than most British brands...

OP posts:
bigTillyMint · 04/09/2012 06:42

musicposy I'm afraid it was a disaster - even my frogmarching couldn't force her in to get measured up at John Lewis. Why would you be so embarassed about getting measured up? Some of her best friends have been measured so it's not that big a deal, surely?

Ben10GoldMedalsForGB · 05/09/2012 08:09

How about this. White for school and patterned for the weekend.

IShallWearMidnight · 05/09/2012 08:25

recommend Figleaves for 28 backs. We have a similar problem, compounded by DD2 not wanting "scary" bras (i.e. more adult "sexy" styles). The Debenhams ones we found were quite nylon-ey, and DD would prefer cotton/cotton mix which is very hard to find.

bigTillyMint · 05/09/2012 17:07

Ben10, they look fab, thanks.

Sadly I told DD on Monday that I will NOT buy her a new bra till she gets measured! I have since found out that practically no 13yo girls will take their top off for a fitter (apart from the two I know who must obviously be freakishly confident!), so maybe I should give in?

OP posts:
MrsSquirrel · 05/09/2012 21:23

My 13 yo dd went for a fitting at John Lewis. The woman was really lovely with her. Didn't realise it was such a big deal. DD was very low-key about the whole thing, maybe she was being brave.

She was Shock when she found out her cup size is bigger than mine.

bigTillyMint · 06/09/2012 06:37

MrsSquirrel, I think my DD is 3 cup sizes bigger than meGrin

What about something like this www.marksandspencer.ie/2-Pack---Angel-Non-Wired-Moulded-FirstBras/Parent_T339132A,en_IE,pd.html?dwvar_Parent__T339132A_color=PQ&start=4&q=angel. What is it with todays teens?I am completely flat-chested and dd,15,is a 34 b already. Well to be honest I am only guessing the size and buying what I think is the correct size for her as there is no way she will even let me measure her let alone come with me to a shop to be measuredShock.
I think you have done great to get this far with her to be honest.Grin. My dd finds the whole thing a bit embarassing I think at this age., I pick my battles to be honest and this is one I dont have-I seem to be getting it right with the size I thinkHmm.The marks and spencer ones are quite good I find.

bigTillyMint · 06/09/2012 17:26

Orangeena, that is what DD is currently wearing but is too small - they don't do 28C+ in that styleAngry
