Clothes that is. At what age did yours start doing their own?

I would rather do it myself. My son would just put a pair of jeans in and use the tumble drier all the time. He will iron if he needs something. There's only us three at home he would only have a couple if loads a week.

10-11. (They're now 12 and 17). They're not supposed to ever do a half-load, so they have to add someone else's washing/towels etc to theirs if the machine isn't full. I admit I keep my own dirty clothes locked away so they can't ruin any of it!

I find it easier to do myself.

They have to put in baskets/put away though.

Told my DS 16 that as it was the holidays and I was working that he would be resonsible for washing his own clothes. So far in 2 months he's done 1 load which i nagged him to do B4 we went on holiday. He just sits around in his undies and when he goes out he recycles his clothes off the floor of his room ... no wonder he hasn't found a girlfriend !

I've never even considered asking DC's to do their own washing. They'll have plenty of time to that when they get their own place - they'll have years of it then.

My eldest is 18 and has been doing his own laundry for about a year. He uses the caravan as his bedroom so has a separate laundry basket anyway. He knows not to run the machine unless it's at least close to full. He tends to wait until he has enough for two loads, splits it into dark and light and then does it after checking that I don't need to use the machine. If he needs something before he has enough to do a load he will add in some from the main laundry basket in the house. He does his own bed linen too, he also tidies, hoovers and dusts his own room and cooks for us all sometimes too - he likes being more independent and we both feel more confident that he will cope when he goes to uni next year.

I do all the washing in my house. Don't iron the older kids clothes though - if they want something ironed they need to do it themselves. I've yet to see either of them bother Grin
