Dyslexic teen

Anyone had their teen diagnosed at 14. Did it help with self - esteem, we're teachers helpful?

Ds1 has finally agreed to be tested, he always refused as apparently it is social death and would result in him being labelled a r***d by some of his peers. He is now crashing and burning academically and has admitted that he need some help.

I could do with some success stories to motivate me for the battle!

I have a Dd who has refused testing. I last asked her last year when she was 15 but she was adamant.

She has coped with most of her GCSE's, well she has done Btecs but is pretty sure she has failed english.

She is going to college in September so I am hoping that if she hasnt passed english she will get some support.

I sound like a rubbish parent but she did vision therapy and wore coloured lenses when she was 8/9 and this helped massively with her reading, it didnt really help her spelling though or her ability to use punctuation. She hated the coloured lenses and didnt want to stand out.

School have not been helpful.

If he is aware that he needs help now I would jump and get him tested.

Good luckSmile
