DS going to Ibiza tomorrow with a mate - what have I/has he forgotten

Passport - check
Easyjet boarding passes - check (he's going to get a shock when he goes on Easyjet!)
Printed hotel confirmation - check
Euros
Eurocard

He's 17. He's been to the States with this friend before when they were 15 with no adults around, and chose this mate because he knows they won't fall out.

Should he take anything other than the above and a few t shirts and shorts?

My DD is going to Ibiza for 5 night tomorrow too! We have everything on the lists plus I am going to buy condoms for the girls going (they think I am being daft lol). I wish I had never agreed to her going.

DiscoDaisy · 21/07/2012 19:46

Most of the bars in the west end stay open until about 2 - 2.30 depending on the bar. We did the big clubs for a couple of nights and then stayed on the west end the other nights.
What board rating is he?

ILikeMagicMike · 21/07/2012 19:49

My mum gave me condoms when I went away on holiday at 17. I had a boyfriend who wasn't coming with us, and I assured her I would not be cheating on him but she insisted Blush

ILikeMagicMike · 21/07/2012 19:51

Is he likely to take drugs? Cos it might be worth him knowing that it's a bit different out there......

landofsoapandglory · 21/07/2012 19:53

Re not wearing sun cream. Can you please tell him that I came back from Lanzarote on Thursday, it was scorching and DS2 burnt through factor 50 sun cream. We went through 4 bottles of factor 50, 6 bottles of factor 30 and 2 bottles of factor 20, between 4 of us for a week.

It was so hot, you couldn't walk barefoot from the sun bed to the pool!

He, also, needs to carry his E111 card with him all the time, because(according to Martin Lewis) you need to present it when you first turn up at hospital in order to receive free treatment.

ILikeMagicMike · 21/07/2012 19:53

Sorry I keep thinking of things.

That ultrasun sun cream might be a good idea. Teenagers often forget to keep applying the cream and can end up very burnt - I did and it was horrible.
Ultrasun or P20 is just once a day.

ILikeMagicMike · 21/07/2012 19:55

Sorry I just saw he was mixed race, but I think, not 100% sure that a mixed race friend of mine got burnt recently.....better to be safe.

Anyway hope he has a great time. Ibiza was the best holiday I've been on!!

Chandon · 21/07/2012 19:59

Don't give him condoms and paracetamol.

He can do thta himself!

mumblechum1 · 21/07/2012 20:11

Disco, he's B&B at the Hotel Tropical.

I will definitely make sure he has his E111 card with him as well as the insurance (which I've just organised)

Sunglasses.

My absolute must-have travel accessory is one of those plug-in anti-mosquito tablet burner thingies... Probably too late to get one of those now, except at the airport, and I don't suppose it will be top of his list of things to get there!

When I was young and did a lot of travelling and stayed in dodgy budget accommodation, I always had a money-belt - it goes under your clothes and is more secure than a wallet for your passport and cash.

sashh · 22/07/2012 04:45

Insurance and SUNSCREEN - black skin has the equivelant effect as SPF 13 on white skin.

Black skin can burn, but not easily, however skin cancer in black people is more aggressive than white.

Sorry I don't have figures for someone who is mixed race, and I supose it depends on how dark he is naturally.

If he goes darker in the sun that is still sun damage.

mumblechum1 · 22/07/2012 08:19

Thanks Flow and Sashh.

Sunglasses - check
Sunscreen - he has agreed to slather some on and I've packed some, whether he uses it or not I don't know. He's not one for lying around on sunbeds or shirtless but he knows he can get burnt in the pool and walking around.

He won't wear a money belt, but will just take a small amount of cash out with him and leave the rest in the room safe (the hotel doesn't look that dodgy, it's 3* so basic but clean according to the reviews)

Thank you all for your words of wisdom!

Remind him to steer clear of the balcony when pissed or larking about,i speak from bitter experience.

mumblechum1 · 22/07/2012 08:42

Sad onmehols. I have heard about two tragedies that way.

Fortunately ds has a good head for alcohol, he goes out every weekend drinking but I've never seen him really pissed, he knows when to stop. He doesn't do drugs either as he's in the TA and would be chucked out if he failed a spot drugs test, and wouldn't be able to go in the Army after Uni which is his intention.

Thank God he seems to have skipped the idiot gene which runs in my side of the family Wink

Ormiriathomimus · 24/07/2012 21:36

Condoms.

I won't tell you the stories my mate's 18 yr old told her about his trip to Ibiza or you'd be freaking out Wink

Annunziata · 24/07/2012 21:42

Have you heard from him yet?! I got one text saying 'here love you' and that was it when DS went, I was up to high dough all week Blush

mumblechum1 · 25/07/2012 08:05

Hi, yes, he called on Monday morning. He landed at 1am, got to hotel 2am, partied till 5.

Phoned me at 11am to say he didn't feel very well, maybe he was coming down with something?Hmm

Actually he does have a really bad cold, so on Monday night he and his mate stayed in Shock and got an early night. He phoned me on Tues morning to say he felt better and they'd had mohitos on the beach. Haven't heard from him since so hoping he's on the mend and enjoying himself.
