Last night I made what I thought was a large meal, of which they ate plenty. Less than an hour later they can into the living room "is there anything to eat we are starving". Its costing me a fortune!!

How do you fill your ds up? And how much is your weekly food bill trying to achieve it???

Another one here who goes for the 'let him fill up on cheap stuff' around the normal balanced diet I feed all my family at meal times.
Stuff that is cheap and goes down well :
Supernoodles (15p a pack in Sainsburys)
Tins of raviolli (57p I think in Sainsburys)
Tins of custard (Basics are about 25p a tin)
Pizza (I get the ones that cost £1 but are dinner plate sized, from Farm Foods)
Toast - keep thick sliced, cheap loaves in the freezer)
Yogs - stock up when on special offer. I did think it would be cheaper to buy the bigger, family sized tubs, but he just eats more if there's more there, whereas, he tends to limit to one normal sized yog per fridge visit.
Cheapo cereal bars (again, basics - about 75p for 6)
Buy McVities Jamaica Ginger Cake when on special offer
Home made cakes

SD (21) has been home from uni this week.
She is a tall, enviabe size 8 and on wednesday ate ( in order):
bowl of cereal with milk, 2 slices of toast, two packets of crisps, bar of chocolate, two pasties from pound bakery, three sausages in french bread, crabsticks with dip, banana, roast chicken tea with four veg, rice pudding, bowl of cereal with milk.
Half way through the day she said, 'I dont know whats wrong with me, dad, I cant stop eating' !
Yesterday and today have been the same!!

DS (19) had a family sized KFC bucket as a snack the other day. A snack. When I do spat bol for the two of us, I use 1kilo of mince. There is not an ounce of fat on him.

Get them on some lower G I foods. Will keep them filled up for longer. The sugars and refined carbs will keep them running back to the kitchen. Also up their meat/protein intake.

What these kids eat seems typically to be a larger than normal adult diet with the addition of a lot of filling carbs and fat. My DS already eats more meat than DH and me together.
It's not easy to dictate what a 16/17 year old eats and the fact is that he will sit down and eat a healthy balanced meal with the family, so I don't mind the snacking. If he snacked and refused to eat proper meals or if he put weight on, then I would rein it in.
I have warned him that there will come a time when he will have to improve his eating habits or he will get fat.[busmile]

Dd (12) this week has started eating far more than me. Tonight she ate an adult sized main meal, ice cream and then a huge quantity of grapes. Not a lot compared to most on here but I was Shock as up until now she has had a little appetite. She sometimes puts my shoes on to go into the garden. This week my size 5s don't fit.

It's started hasn't it!?

I was always hungry Grin
Catering at Uni was included but they have now put a limit on things. We were doing a physical course and so breakfast would be a full fry up, bowl of cereal, tea, juice, yoghurt and 6 pieces of toast
I remember one of my male friends opening a multipack of 12 bags of crisps, ripping them open, tipping them into the big bag and eating the lot
Corned beef hash/hotpot was my mums way of filling me up
