Can I share a bit of happiness?

My 17 yr old DS has gone through months of anxiety/panic attacks/depression which struck out of the blue. At one point he was unable to eat or take a step out of the house.

I took time off work, got him counselling, hugged him and cried with him. We've listened to relaxation tapes together, took up exercise and changed our diets. We're not out the woods yet, but he is getting there.

Today I got a mother's day card off him with the words "thankyou ma, you played a big part in cheering me up and getting me better"

It is one of the highlights of my life Smile

So great, makes it all worthwhile! (almost).

Still our lovely boys after all!

MedusaIsHavingABadHairDay · 18/03/2012 21:42

My DS1 19(who has put us thro a good few truly shitty years but now a LOT better) made me a card at his place of work today..

On the front it was hearts and flowers.. and 'but'
Inside it said 'thank fuck you're mine!' (I tell him off for swearing so it's his idea of a joke)

But underneath that was a small concertina'd piece of paper which said,
'To the most important woman in my life ever.
I know I can be a pain but I will forever love and respect you Mummy'

Grin In is own unique way, as always..but the best card I have ever ever received!

VeniVidiVisa · 18/03/2012 21:46

That's lovely Medusa Smile

MaryZ, VVV and Noddy, I'm so pleased your lads are both getting so much better - well done for hanging in there

AnyFucker · 18/03/2012 22:07

lovely thread

my dd, 16 (monumental pain in the arse recently) signed the DH-bought card from both of the kids

but made another one herself, onto the front of which she stuck a photo of me holding a newborn her with the words "thanks for everything you do"

Grin
Stonesour · 18/03/2012 22:08

glad to hear that Noddy.

GetOrfMoiiLand · 18/03/2012 22:10

Aww anyf that's lovely.

I'd like to add to this. We have been through almost 3 really difficult years with DS1. A combination of serious mental health issues and drug addiction. Rehab last summer was followed by him starting up again in september and everything spiralled out of control and we must have had the worst 2 months of our lives from xmas to february. An accidental overdose resulting in an emergency rush to hospital etc.
Anyway he has been off drugs for 5 weeks and sent me a card which he apologised for being 'slushy', but said this is what he felt. This is what it said :

"If mums are meant to be there when you need a helping hand
To support and never judge you, simply care and understand.
If mums are meant to love you
make life happy, safe and sound,
I guess that means I've always had
the perfect mum to have around"

Not a card you'd expect from a 20year old son but it made me cry and I told him it was the best mothers day ever.

As for hope. I just hope we continue to move forward. I'm afraid it is early days for us and I live in fear of a relapse into previous behaviour.

DS 16 went across the hill on his bike and came back with loads of daffodils (from a shop not a verge Grin) and helped dd peel the potatoes for the lunch they were cooking for me.

Happy days everyone.

Great thread 'hope'

flow4 · 19/03/2012 21:58

Good thread. Nice to read. Thanks :)
I needed a bit of hope yesterday, cos my eldest son didn't mark mother's day at all - no card or anything... We 'celebrated' mid- afternoon when he told me he'd got £50 in debt to a dealer on Friday night and we had a row. I went for a walk with my younger son to calm down, and came back to him starting to make tea for the first time in more than a year... And this morning he went to college for the first Monday since Christmas...
Hope. Maybe we CAN all hang on in there :)

Brightspark1 · 20/03/2012 22:25

This thread made me cry, but it gives me hope . Thank you

Clownsarescary · 20/03/2012 23:08

Wolfiefan · 20/03/2012 23:14
