Uncommunicative Daughter - Grrrrrr!

I am feeling increasingly saddened by our dd's (aged 13) lack of communication within the family. For the last 6 months she's kept everyday chit-chat to a bare minimum and us at arm's length. I fully appreciate that teens need their 'space' but how much distance do you deem to be acceptable? I've had 2 days with each dd separately over halfterm - should have been lovely - but I'm left feeling empty and angry. Simple stuff like dog-walking / shopping etc have been typified by my occasional comments or questions and monosyllabic answers. She won't 'give' anything of herself - am I being unreasonable? Honest answers honestly wanted!!

typical teenage stuff .. They talk when they want to, your lucky you even got to do simple stuff, mine wouldnt be seen dead in public with me lol.. on the occasion i have took DD who is 16 shopping, im under strict instructions that if she see's someone she knows i have to pretend im not with her, makes it all the more fun to embarrass her

Ooh it's tricky isn't it? I don't think you can excuse all behaviour on the grounds of being a teenager. FWIW my DC was less communicative at 13 and 14 than 15+.

Thank you for your responses - much appreciated. I do realise that her hormones are in giddy overdrive but it's so tough when encountering this 'new' version of a previously sunny-tempered girl. I'll try to take a step back, count to 10, slap a smile on my face and b-r-e-a-t-h-e!!

Hi, my son became the same at this age; from someone who never stopped chatting to me, suddenly it all came to an end. It was such a shock. He is now nearly 18 and although by no means back to normal, think I can see a light at the end of the tunnel..
