Dd(14) and mates got mugged today :(

They'd been out shopping, and going for a subway and then decided to have a walk through the park.

3 lads set on them, beat the one lad up, and threatened to stab the others if they didn't hand over their phones.

Luckily one girl said she hadn't got a phone on her and so was able to ring 999 as soon as the twats left. The police were brilliant, and all 3 lads have been caught.

Dd and her mates were very shaken, and the lad that got beat up is a bit bruised, but otherwise they are thankfully all ok.

What shit's though. It isn't a place that i'd have ever though of as dangerous, but you never know do you.

I am resisting looking for houses in the middle of nowhere, and never letting dd out again.

I'm so sorry to hear that Sad. How horrible for you, and for your dd and her friends. I remember getting mugged several times during my teens, starting at age 12, and how fearful it made me (yet unable to acknowledge that, because of course teenagers think they have to be cool about these things).

Horrible horrible horrible.

All the best to you and your dd.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 10:13

Thank you Devora. I am shocked at it happening to you several times, that is awful.

In a way I am glad it happened to a group of them because then they can lean on each other for support, and know what each other went through.

Dd did say yesterday that she was never going out again, but as I and the police said to her, that would just be letting them win.

Oh that's hideous, poor dd and co.

Hope she's feeling better today. Glad the sods got caught.

TheOneWithTheHair · 18/02/2012 10:23

Poor things. :( I hope your dd is feeling ok today. Keep an eye on her over the next few weeks etc just to make sure she is dealing with it ok.
I'm glad they caught the scum.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 10:25

Thank's, I will certainly be keeping a close eye on her and will inform the school on Monday so they can do the same.

I think someone from victim support is going to ring us too.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 18/02/2012 10:25

Oh your poor dd, I'm pleased they caught the boys though. That was very quick thinking from your dd's friend.
Hope she's ok today.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 10:33

Yeh dd's friend did absolutly the right thing. One of the officers said that alot of the time, kids go home and then tell someone, and by then it is too late.

Because they rung straight away, there were 25 officers on their tail within minutes of it happening.

TheOneWithTheHair · 18/02/2012 10:39

They did brilliantly! The thugs got something so they left which allowed your dd's friend to act. They were all brilliant. I bet as well as being shocked and upset you are really proud of your dd. Make sure you tell her. I'm so glad for you that they are all ok. It's such a horrible thing to happen.

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 10:56

Oh god yes, I am, and told her so. They all managed to stay calm during the incident, but i think they feel guilty for not helping the one that got beaten up, but there was nothing they could do really, if the other guy was threatening to stab them.

Thankfully the lad is ok.

So glad that they are all ok. The poor boy that was beaten up. I hope theirs enough evidence to get them charged and a conviction.
It's something all parents never want to hear.

Gumby · 18/02/2012 17:04

Sad nutty poor dd

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 20:33

I gave dd and her sister £10 this afternoon and told them to go to subway for lunch. I felt like i had got send dd out, because i could tell that she was worried about going out again.

She said she was ok, but did get nervous when someone walked past.

Bastards. She is normally such a confident girl.

I think i've got delyaed 'my daughter was mugged' shock today.

I suddenly feel really awful for not being there when it happened, which is daft cos why would i have been there.

This is a horrible trend at the moment. Apparently it is being driven by the fact that these gangs know a lot of young teens got iPhones at xmas and they target them.

I heard about a school where local gangs were just stood waiting outside as kids left the school. It was just after xmas and the gangs were only interested in iPhones.

Hope DD and her friends are OK. They did well.

TheOneWithTheHair · 18/02/2012 20:46

Poor you Nutcracker. :( Take things easy for now. It was a good idea to send her out though. It needed to be done. You are both so brave. :)

TheOriginalNutcracker · 18/02/2012 20:47

Yes i can see that happening round here tbh.

I think that the lads may have possibly seen them on their phones earlier and then targeted them later on.

OlympicEater · 19/02/2012 12:13

Your poor DD. What an awful thing to happen.

Well done both of you for being brave re going back out for lunch yesterday - must have been hard for her to go and hard for you to let her go.

3littlefrogs · 19/02/2012 12:21

My dss were mugged so many times during their teens that I lost count.

It is a sad and horrible fact of life theses days.

What I did do, in order to mitigate the damage a bit, was to tell them to always take an old PAYG phone, an old wallet with a few pounds and some old plastic cards (not credit or debit) to hand over.

Leave the expensive phone at home if going out with mates, always have a fiver in your shoe or elsewhere on your person so you can get home.

The last time ds2 got mugged the mugger handed back the phone.......

TheOriginalNutcracker · 25/07/2012 17:16

Just thought i'd update this. Two of the lads ended up being charged, both for robbery and one lad for assualt.

They pled guilty and were sentenced last week to, 28mths and 10mths, which we are satisfied with.

Fantastic. You read too often about little shits getting cautions, probation, etc.

GerardWay · 25/07/2012 18:53

I'm so glad they have been sentenced. How have your DD and her friends been since it all happened?

chocoluvva · 25/07/2012 18:54

What a horrible experience for you and your DD and friends.
It sounds like you're coping really well.
No words of advice, but I'm so pleased for you that the offenders are out of your way now.
