and has just stormed out.

she is 14 and has a party coming up. She wants a dress from top shop - with delivery its £40. It is not in her size (10) so she wants me to order it in an 8. I am saying there is absolutely no point in ordering a dress that will be too small and paying the delivery fee.

she is now in an absolute strop and ive just thrown my bloody credit card and laptop at her.

she wants a dress
new bra (this dress was off the shoulder at one side)
tights that cost £7 (I dont pay that for my tights!!!)
new shoes

She is being a brat and ive just said im buying her nothing and she can do without.
i was perfectly willing to search the internet for something else of take her shopping this weekend but she had other plans and was too busy!

i am sick of my sodding kids. When do they stop being selfish arses and act like normal people again?

last Q? probably at about 25.

if she wants an expensive frock tell her how much you will donate towards it (my limit would be £20). if she has to have a more expensive one she pays the difference.

I suspect she is being a cow, just because she can.

Has she been taking lessons from my dd1 ??

Dd went through a phase of expecting a new outfit for every party that came up. She soon gave up though, and now tends to get her whole wardrobe out and make up a new outfit from stuff she already has. I do occasionally buy her something new if i see it in a sale, but otherwise she has to make do.

She gets tights from asda, and normally borrows some of my shoes.

I did however infest in a strapless bra for her, as once you have it you don't need to buy one again, unless they suddenly have a growth spurt in that area.

Dd still moans that 'she has nothing to wear' but i just tune her out now.

ifesting in a strapless bra sounds painful Grin

Wow glad I'm not the only one! Just say no grit your teeth and don't let her know how much she gets to you.
I keep thinking with any luck my two will be at uni in a few years.

it dont mind buying her a dress - she doesnt really have any posh frocks, but i draw the line at £7 tights or ordering dresses that just wont fit! i dont even mind getting her a strapless bra but she is just wanting without any thought - i asked her what bra she would wear...but she just wants the dress regardless.

she is 5foot 6, and a beautiful size 10. when i pointed out that the 8 wouldnt fit she shouted "thanks" as if id just slapped her and stormed off.

i give up.

she is now stomping about upstairs.

Oh dear! Give her an hour or so to cool off and I expect she will reappear and be a little more grateful/subdued etc. The dress size thing is something we frequently battle with. DD2 is a size 8 but with Dolly Parton's boobs poor kid, and so she hankers after dresses that WILL NOT do up over those boobs..yet getting a size 10 and having it taken in at the waist etc is a no no.. sigh...

DD2 is 17 now and has sobbed over dress shopping too many times. I TRY and stay patient but oh yes, I empathise!

I agree a decent bra is a good investment as long as she promises not to keep growing ^^ see above :/

We sometimes compromise.. easier now DD2 has a p/t job, but still if your DD has pocket money.. maybe you buy the dress and if she wants expensive tights, she pays for those?

Just wait til Prom season shudder It AGED me I tell ya!
