17 year olds holidaying without adults; anyone found accomodation?

Our ds doesn't want to come on holiday with dh and I this year(Tuscany - can't say I blame him tbh), but I don't want to leave him alone at home with nothing to do, so have suggested he and his friend, also 17, go away somewhere. I know that in the Uk they could go to a youth hostel, but does anyone have experience of under 18s getting accomodation in any of the mediterranean resorts?

It's not possible to do it through the usual cheapo things like First Choice, but not sure whether they could just turn up at a separately booked hotel or B&B and be able to stay?

Ta in advance

Hi, my daughter and her friend were able to book for the Algarve last year at this age. We booked through the Co-op Travel in store with Thomas Cook, myself and the other girl's father jotted a quick letter with the agent to give our permission and that was sufficient.
Lots of other girls in the same year travelled elsewhere (parent free) under the same arrangement.

Might prove tricky as they are under 18.

Sta might also be good -they do stuff like touring coach/backpackers trips

my friends son went abroad last year at 17 she had to do a letter for the travel agent however the other lads he went with were over 18 , but its worth looking into ,

My daughter is 17 and going on holiday with a group of friends. The tour op is Thompson's. I had to send a letter of permission.
