Birthday ideas for 13yr old girl?

My soon-to-be 13 year old daughter can come up with no ideas for what to do for her 13th birthday in a couple of weeks. It's just her and a few friends these days. We've done all the usual things and are struggling to find anything that appeals to her.

What did you do for yours?

Mine had a very expensive laptop so no party. That was the deal and she was happy and so was I Grin.

Mine had a photoshoot with friends - they had a great time.

I quite like that idea but what if she doesn't stay friends with same group? Food for thought, though.

Out for pizza in restaurant. Not cheap but easy. Some of her friends did discos, one had a skating party. Most didn't do anything at all

Cinema and pizza. As long as you trust your DD I'd do this as an "independent" thing too, unless your town isn't safe. I'd drop DD, meet mates, pay for cinema and magically appear to move them on to meal and pay for that after.

Of course you may think 13yr olds needs supervising, but I don't and a matinee at the local cinema and a meal after is a perfect way to stretch their wings and try being grown up. If they/the eating place didn't like that then I'd go, but I'd consider sitting apart from them and letting them get on with it.

Such things can actually be pretty cheap as they'll all be kids tickets at the cinema and a pizza hut buffet or similar isn't too spendy.

A group of 5 or so would have a great time pretending to be grown up.

My dd loves that idea, but her birthday is too close to xmas to make a shopping centre possible (would have to be Manchester) and her friend is doing a shopping trip party just a week before.

lt is making me go back to my original idea of having something at home with jelly and ice cream, pass-the-parcel etc, just in an ironic kind of way. Your idea has made her realise that it would be kind of cool, whereas when I made the suggestion she thought I was trying to embarrass her.

My DD and three friends had their nails done, £10 each, they got them shaped and beautifully varnished with plain coat and then decorated. The they had pizza in a restaurant (sat on their own table, we sat elsewhere and just paid the bill)then back to our house for birthday cake and 'hanging out'

Love some of these ideas. You girls know how to do parties. Xmas Smile

DD2 had a disco with a dj for her 13th, this year (14th) she wanted to take 6 friends to Thorpe Park but we just cant afford that so the plan is to do a meal out with her friends.

Tenebrist · 11/12/2011 19:37

DD1 did bowling followed by pizza in the summer. There were 12 of them in total (including her and DD2) so it was horribly expensive in total.

SandStorm · 11/12/2011 19:41

Mine took two friends to the theatre and for pizza afterwards (with me and DD2).

Year before she had her mates round to watch a dvd and all they wanted was fish and chips from chippie - dead easy.
