What phones do your teens have (esp older ones)

Ok I'm a gadget freak....I have an iphone 4 and coveting the 4S....

At the moment the kids have old ish phones on P+G. DS has a tocco lite (he's 16 in jan) and he's had it a year or more- surprisingly he's kept it immaculate. Youngest (12) has an alcatel one touch that is beaten up (had it 18 months).

In process of moving to giffgaff to take the spend on phones right down (on P+G with O2 at the moment).

Gave the 18yr old my £g iphone last year.

Trying to think what is appropriate and reasonable for them to have. They are lovely kids and would never say "so and so has an iphone I want one etc

So do "nice" teens all really have blackberries/iphones/galaxies or is that what the media want us to think? DS doesn't actually know what phones his mates have!

mrsjay, it may be that the Blackberry is the chav's phone of choice (I wouldn't know)

that doesn't make it a chavvy phone though Grin

IdontknowwhyIcare · 08/01/2012 07:24

Blackberry because they ALL use BBM 24/7 Hmm. No idea it was chavvy.

Both PAYG, would never let them have a contract. Both bought with Tesco vouchers, LG phones costing about £80 - £100 each.
Their phones are still flasher than mine. They have real computers to play on if they want a computer, the phone is just for use as a phone. They both also have ipods if they want music/ apps etc.

Just checked and phones were about £60 but free as with tokens.

ds1 is 14 and has a blackberry torch. it was my contract phone but i got a works phone and gave him my old one, he kept withint th eminutes/allowance and so allowed him to do the upgrade to the torch from a iphone 3gs.
ds2 who will be 10 at end of this month has a nokia n9 but this was ds1's old payg phone he has a new sim in it and had £15 credit for the last year!

mumeeee · 09/01/2012 14:59

DD3 is 19 and has just got a Galaxy mini for Christmas. Her first choice was the Apollo but that's been discontinued. Anyway she got a sim free one so that she could her GiffGaff sim in it. She pays £10 a month and gets unlimited texts and Internet and 250 minutes

argghh · 09/01/2012 16:07

DD has a Blackberry.

DS covets an iPhone. He currently has a complicated looking Nokia phone which he was given when doing a bit of work for a phone company, but would really like an iphone.

Spidermama · 10/01/2012 10:49

DD is 13 and DS is 12. They both have LG Optimus MEs and they seem to like them. They're both very nice. Grin

supermama212 · 10/01/2012 16:22

htc wildfire s on tesco mobile contract - pay £15 a month and she keeps it for two years

highriggs · 10/01/2012 16:30

iPhone now do free iMessage Which also works on iPad and iPod touch

Bunbaker · 10/01/2012 16:34

I'm amazed at the number of youngsters who have iPhones. When I was looking at a new phone for DD the phone shops all told me that most children her age (11) had Blackberrys. DD has a Blackberry lookalike from Orange - much cheaper and uses the Android operating system. She loves her phone and uses it a lot. I have just upped her contract because she and her friends text each other all the time and she sent 851 texts last month. I didn't want her on PAYG because I didn't want the risk of her needing to contact me in an emergency and not having any credit.

Bunbaker · 10/01/2012 16:34

I have a Samsung Galaxy Ace and it is Ace.

ThatVikRinA22 · 10/01/2012 16:40

DD, 14, has a blackberry - it was free with Virgin mobile, i pay £15 month for 100mins and 500 texts - but she always has her nose in it and uses the BBM loads....

it is insured!

i have an iphone 3G, as does DS, 20.

percysgirl · 11/01/2012 10:36

DS1 (16) and DD (14) both have blackberries that are constantly attached to their hands (unless of course it is me ringing/texting them!!) Not sure how much they are as ex-hubby pays their contracts for them. They like them for the BBM thingy (I don't even know what that is - that's how gadgety I am!!)

Blackcabmum · 11/01/2012 17:00

both my dd 13 and 15 have (or are getting as birthday soon) a blackberry with giff gaff ( no contract) we only pay £10 a month for unlimited txt unlimited internet and 250 mins and free giff gaff to giff gaff calls. fantastic deal. Not yet bbm friendly but are planning to be with in the next couple of weeks. Great deal I think.

butterfliesandladybirds · 11/01/2012 21:42

DD (14.5) has a blackberry (all her friends are on BBM) it's on a contract with Tesco mobile and is capped. Previously she had a Nokia PAYG but would often be out of credit and couldn't contact me. I prefer her to be able to do this.

openyerlugholes · 11/01/2012 21:47

Dd1 (18) has an iphone 4
Dd2 (17) has a blackberry

They both pay for their contracts though.

Dd3 (12) has an old payg samsung handed down from her sister.
Dds (11) doesn't have a phone and isn't interested in having one.
