Keeping glasses on a 14 year old

Since starting secondary school my DD has taken to removing her glasses as soon as she leaves the house to walk to school in the morning and I'm at my wits end. She's worn them without any sort of issue for years and admits she can see much better with them than without them. I only found out when her teacher contacted me asking why my DD was no longer wearing her glasses.

I'm really worried for her safety without them, particularly walking to and from school as her eyesight without them is appalling and she struggles to see cars or people she's talking to properly, not that she admits that she struggles.

Would really appreciate some advice on how to proceed. Suzy

Well, contact lenses would be the best thing if she hates glasses...
But does she honestly like the style of her glasses?
If she didn't choose them, the likelihood is that she doesn't like them as much as the ones she would have chosen.

What exactly are they saying is the reason for being unsuitable? If you don't feel you got a proper answer call back and ask.

Bumping this thread as I'm worried sick about my sons eyesight. He's always had poor eyesight, as have I, patch and glasses when started school, then just glasses. He wore them, mostly until high school.

Then we struggled to get him to wear them. In May 2017 aged 12.5 he got a new prescription, he picked nice new designer specs, thinned down lenses as much as possible. Thought we were back on track. Collected them and all was fine in the shop. As soon as we left he point blank refused to wear them. I tried and tried and then decided to ease off; and come back to it. That didn't work and he still won't wear them. Telling him tonight he must get back and retested and maybe try lenses, he's saying there's no point, he can't even read out his left eye. But he doesn't care, as far as he's concerned, he can see. He can play football, he can see the board, etc. I'm sick.

This thread has me worried he won't even qualify for lenses? I have attached his last prescription. +3.25 and 4.25. I'm not sure what the additional figure mean for the left eye?

Will lenses help, if I can get him to agree to that?

He will definitely no quality for lenses . My daughter has a lazy eye and has had a surgery where her prescription makes it right . She has bad eyesight ( she is only allowed monthly’s) . The optician will more than likely say he’s fine to get them

Sorry @Xmasmummy987 He will or won't qualify? You say no, but then that the optician will say he's fine for them?

Bump

I don’t know what’s gone wrong with my typing , I meant he will definitely qualify for lenses . His prescription isn’t too high and he’s around age 13 (my child got them at 13) . I know kids that have had them in year 6. They don’t recommend monthly’s for kids yet I went through with it and it wasn’t much hassle - this was for monthly’s , he will probrably get daily’s if his prescription isn’t too high

Phew! Thank you @Xmasmummy987

We have an appointment for tomorrow.

I couldn't get on with monthlies myself, so dailies would my preference for him, to be on the safe side, but anything's better than nothing. Fingers crossed!
