DD is 15 and we currently give her £10 a month, pay for her phone, buy essential clothes and pay for extra-curric stuff.
We feel she ought to have more but how much?
What do you do?
Thanks

Our DD1, nearly 16 gets £60 per month and DD2, nearly 14 gets £50 per month. This is for any non essential clothes, bus fare to see friends, cinema tickets, make-up etc. They always run out and try to squeeze some more out of us, by slipping things into the basket in Boots etc., but we try to be firm so that they can learn to budget. Is not working too well, as it just doesn't seem to stretch far enough. Everything is so expensive now, they can't even get a magazine for less than 2-3 pounds and are currently too young to get anything other than babysitting to supplement it.

Magazines are v pricey. If they run out of money, they don't buy the magazine, no?

I'm surprised that a lot of these tenagers who have a job still get thier allowence. The deal in our house is when you get a job then the allowence stops,

As I mentioned earlier DS1 who is 14 gets around 70quid in cash and he is earning £40. We agreed to keep the pocket money going on condition that all the earned money goes into a saving account. The minute he starts making excuses about not saving his allowance will stop.

Our teenagers get £30 a month, out of which they have to pay for:

Makeup
Accessories
Going out/ social life
Presents for friends
Save up for Christmas presents for the family/ any friends

Our eldest has a part-time job paying about £100 a month. She has to pay for most of her own clothes but I pay for underwear, a coat, jeans and a few other basics. We go halves on her waxing.

They both mainly ask for clothes for Christmas and birthdays.

DS (16) gets £5/week for which he has to lay table, clean up after tea/load dishwasher, keep his room tidy, move his clothes, make bed, etc. Everything else is paid for though including piano/taekwando lessons, clothes etc.

mine are 15 and 16 girls, they get 8 pounds per week.. this used to be 5 pounds a week, and 3 pounds would be my non cooking day so they got pizza/take-away.. turns out now they end up with the full 8 pounds plus pizza.. then they get an extra 20 pounds at the end of the month, this is to buy stuff they need with. They also get phone top up once a month.

They constantly ask for more money, i think im giving them enough
