Can anyone recommend a good book on.....

what to expect in adolescence and the teenage years. Our oldest son is nearly 12 and we want to prepare ourselves for the big change! I know there are no easy answers but we just want to read around the subject as much as possible. Are they any good books on boys? I read 'raising boys' a few years ago but was wondering if there were any more up to date books out there. Thanks

I would just prepare yourself for the worst and save the effort of reading a book!

they do emerge at the other end though, mine is now cracking..on days he forgets to be horrid!

This one was recommended to me . I took a couple of things from it but mainly muddled through, and still am doing .

There is also Teenagers by Susie Figgis, which is pretty good. Go and browse the Parenting section of your local bookshop- it seems to be a growth area.

(and console yourself that teenage boys aren't nearly so hard as teenage girls )

Thanks tallula, that last remark has filled me with trepidation. Have 3 DDs, the oldest of which is nearly 11 with the attitude of a 15 year old!!

I found the Wolf and Franks one good, a couple of years ago (when it all seemed quite theoretical): must re-read it as ds1 is now 13 and the 'issues' are really popping up now... Kate Figes' book is good too.

Slightly separate issue: can anyone recommend a good book for a ten year old girl with stuff about body changes, sex, hormones etc? My ds is very happy to talk about these things but a book for her to refer to in private would be useful I think.
