Shaving and all that...

My dd uses Veet on her armpits (sorry, 'underarms' :)) and I haven't broached the subject of shaving instead - would it be easier/better? She's 13. If she wanted to shave that would be fine with me, and I'd get her a shaver - what kind?! There are loads of these Venus thingies, all plastic, all 'disposable' . I'd rather get an electric shaver, do they do fancy girly versions of those these days?
[I use my husband's electric shaver in the summer ,and don't bother luxuriate naturally the rest of the time]

As long as she is happy, why change it?
our DD had a go at her legs a couple of weeks ago. She is 9 and didn't use any soap or gel. I doubt she'll be trying it again for a while.
Whatever you do, don't get her a epilator. I've only tried mine once.

Err, what's an epilator....? I kind of understand the word but does it do something other things dont??!

it pulls the hairs out by the roots. A rotating thing grabs them and yanks.

LawrieMarlow · 08/04/2011 14:53

Works well on legs (epilator). Wouldn't like to try armpits. Or anywhere else (although I believe some people do).

If she's happy with Veet for her armpits then let her. Have never used it there but it would mean it would grow back more slowly which would be good.

cyrilsneer · 08/04/2011 16:01

I'd also leave her with the Veet as long as it's working for her.

My DDs are 15 and 17 and Veet doesn't work well for them - one gets a rashy reaction and the other one finds that it just doesn't work and the hairs don't come out at all.

In this house we:
Shave armpits and legs every other day or thereabouts
Have a high bikini wax once a month.

Hope this helps.

Hi, my Ds is 13 and has an olive complexion and black hair . He already has the beginnings of a moustache, and sometimes uses beet type suff on his upper lip. I cannot bear to think of him shaving before he is 14 ! Any advice?

Madondogs · 09/04/2011 14:32

Veet not beet!!

TheVisitor · 09/04/2011 14:34

Yes. Get him a proper razor and get his dad to show him how to shave. Mind you, I was the one who showed my DS1 how to shave. Grin

Defo get son a razor.. a cheap electric one is fine at that age:) My DS1 is 18 and fair but uses his to de bristle just fine and I'm now shaving the 13 yr old (he has special needs) once a week to get rid of the fuzz :)

cornishpasty · 09/04/2011 18:45

Madondogs my ds is 13 and has recently started shaving his moustache area. I got him a cheap (£15) battery powered shaver from Argos. Does him just fine at the moment as he doesn't have to do it very often.
He was dead set against a wet shave as his friend at school tried and had to come to school the next day with his top lip cut to shreds!

Madondogs · 10/04/2011 21:57

Thanks everyone, you are right and I will have to buy him a razor. I am in denial I think! Cannot believe that my darling baby boy needs to shave, grow up far to fast don't they Sad

Hi, just noticed today that my DD (12) has started growing underarm hair. Should I wait till she asks me about how to deal with it or suggest it now? And what is the best thing for her to start with? She has sensitive skin but I'm sure she'll cut herself with a razor!
