Just wondering whether anyone's dcs have actually started any revision yet?

DS has exams from mid May to mid June and assures me that it's waaaay too early to start revising.

He's bullshitting me isn't he?

We seem to have started exams already. DS on some sort of continual revision hell. He has drawn up revision timetable for 8 bits he is taking in May/June and is revising - although only topics he likes Hmm.

If your DS is doing the bulk of them this summer then now is not too early to start revising IMO unless he is absolutely sure they will all be A* - if not then it is time for him to get himself together.

That's what I'm thinking too. He keeps telling me that because all his courseworks have been graded A or A and his modules are A A or B, that the actual final exams are going to be a breeze Hmm. He's off sick today and is apparently going to start revising after he's killed a boss on Crysis 2.

tbh I don't nag. He knows he needs to get at least 7A* at GCSEs (wants to do medicine) so it's up to him.

It is v v tempting, though, to nag.

We are in the same boat - the temptation to kick back and relax because your modules/coursework are all A* - the guarantee of at least a A or B or whatever before you even walk into the exam.

I drew up a realistic timetable with DS, then made list of what he needed to revise in each topic and then highlighted ones that needed most work. This has taken almost 2 weeks Grin.

It is hard not to nag but I do try to remind DS that he'll be pssed off if he misses a run of A because of getting to next level of whatever he does.

I seem to do a lot of sitting near the revision - DS seems to work better if I have my head in a gardening book and look like I am working!

Hmm, I don't think he'd take kindly to me getting involved with planning what to revise. He does get a lot of pressure from the school (it's a grammar so they expect excellence) so feel generally that he doesn't need me on his back as well.

I think if he doesn't start during the Easter hols Imay have to make some pointed remarks Wink

Oh God I am an ogre!
We are in the second week of my revision timetable. This is in addition to anything set in school. Tuesday night is English night so we have just had a long discussion about our favourite books (well, my favourite Bernard Cornwell book and his Of Mice and Men) in an effort to expand our views and look for the obscure and and he did an extra essay on Pre-1914 poetry as that's his bugbear.
I am an ogre aren't I. An interfering old bag of a nosey cow. He hasn't told me to F off yet though.

I'm in the same boat as all of you, also a DS. Tells me he doesn't need to start yet as he has whatever grade so far.

I am not going to do the revision timetable for him. I have offered to sit with him and help him to sort it out, but tbh I think "we" mollycoddle our DC far too much. I didn't have any help like that when I was young and I think he just has to take the first step. I am not going to nag. I have done it a couple of times in the past and it just gave him more of an excuse not to work.

We do discuss loads of stuff over the dinnertable, the whole family, but he doesn't seem to get down to proper revision. He has, though, just asked me for money to get a revision guide. I think he's got nearly all of them now. Other than doing the whole lot for him, which I'm not going to do, I can't do any more. He knows that he can't go to the sixth form that he wants if he doesn't get the grades, so it's up to him now.

DS is relieved that formal homework has now finally stopped so they can concentrate on revision. He does seem to be doing a fair amount.

blossum · 07/04/2011 11:09

DS now in yr 12 but last yr I got him to download a diy revision timetable which helped. Had to fill in exam subjects, dates etc. He did ok, not fantastic but went into Chemistry on an A/A* and got a C! Estimates are no guarantee! I did nag a fair amount but at the end its up to them. No real answers here but they're all the same....Lazy. Now we are facing AS retakes!
