The green Always ones are ever-popular. Dark green are the ones with wings and light green are the ones without.

However I always found "Cottons" to be more comfortable. They are also pre-wrapped and disposable, they are just as soft and absorbant as Always (ie not like the own brand ones) but they have fewer chemicals in and are slightly less "sweaty", especially in black school trousers! They're the same price as Always and you can get them from Boots. (I don't really buy the biodegradable thing, but the other points on them are excellent)

I used these right up until I discovered mooncups and they are the only disposable pad I'll use if I get caught out now.

You could get her some pantyliners as well? I always found pantyliners much of a muchness, tesco own brand ones are just fine. (Though Cottons make pantyliners too.) You can get individually wrapped ones of those too. They're handy for discharge and for getting the hang of wearing something before periods start so that pads don't seem so daunting.

Definitely agree with an emergency pack - small make up bag containing a spare pair of knickers, paracetamol, couple of pads, and a nappy bag or one of the clear veg bags from the supermarket in case of knicker accidents or lack of sanitary bin.

Agree with Maryz. Always.

Bought my DD a little makeup bag and packed it with

a few of the Always towels (she went onto Tampax Comact very swiftly though - second period and hasn't looked back...)
some hand hygeine gel
some black pants
a little plastic bag to put the old knickers in
Some paracetamol
... and a weeny emergency bar of Green and Black's chocolate!

I mean that I agree with Maryz that Always is a good choice of towel not that I necessarily always agree with Maryz... Although she is a sensible and thoughtful poster and, actually, I rather think I DO always agree with Maryz! Grin

Grin I actually do always agree with you Maryz!

BertieBotts · 01/04/2011 15:07

I was going to suggest chocolate too but I know I'd have just eaten it at some random non-emergency time Grin

smileANDwave2000 · 01/04/2011 16:08

Asda do a lovely teen size towel. i got dd a lovely fluffy purse to keep her things in her schoolbag, just in case someone spotted it and she didn't want them to know what it was.

blossum · 07/04/2011 11:18

Useful advice here...mine has the 'tin' too. Handy they give them away. Can't remember what we did in the old days, just managed with a small plastic bag of bits? SO much more organised these days..
