We went and got a few new bits but found the best prices in primark. however attached to some of the bras were pretty g-strings....I did buy them but stated no to the g-string bit. She was cool and muttered they looked very uncomfy!!!

But it got me thinking at what age 'would you allow' ? Confused

some of the bras are quite frankly cheap and nasty looking but she thinks they are pretty and girly. Am i being an ogur? I have confined the illuminous one to the weekends as long as they are 'covered up'. Hmm

What age is she? I only wear thongs myself. DD is 9 so am yet to think how I feel about her wearing them. She currently has a few pairs of black knickers which some parents and my mother deem inappropriate Hmm

usualsuspect · 29/03/2011 16:30

how old?

RubyFakeNails · 29/03/2011 16:42

I have to admit to being a bit of an underwear snob and have always refused to buy items for my DD from la senza, new look plus we live in hackney and I'm sure you can understand we don't really venture into our local primark normally looks like a nuclear warfare site. However did once let her try a topshop bra but as DD takes a large cup size was so uncomfortable and unsupportive shes sticking to M&S and loves Elle Mcpherson (really like these myself).

We have bought thongs about 13, she needed one for a certain outfit and since then has been quite a fan. G-strings were also bought but resulted in us having to buy some proper knickers while we were out one day as she 'couldn't bear it any longer'. Now she has an even mix of knicker types. I'm not fussed about bra colours or any of that I'm just happy most days to finally get her out the house.

DD is 15 btw, how old is yours?

JuicyLucy10 · 29/03/2011 16:45

dd1 is nearly 13. she dresses well not letting it all hang out but still....

My dd 13 loves the bras from sainsburys... the non padded tshirt bras and the matching knickers... quite girlie which she likes. She hastt shown interest in thongs but i think i would want her to hold off till she leaves home and i dont have to see it!!!!

I am a big knicker girl...

shesparkles · 30/03/2011 21:18

I'm sooooo glad my 13 year old still likes the boy shorts type of knickers!

Mydd (14) has same sets from primark - so few g strings in the drawer, she does wear them occasionally, esp is she is wearking jeggins and a shortish top, tbh i'm not at all worried. I also think the more you say no to a teen the more they will want it so I would save the definately no way's for something bigger.

BrokenRing · 31/03/2011 07:52

If they're going to be visible (back of jeans etc) , I would say no to g-strings or at least advise her that other people seeing them isn't attractive; but she could always buy them herself on a shopping trip to town with mates - they only cost a £1 or something in Primark - so would you confiscate them if they turned up in the wash? My teen girl has a mix of girl-boxers, g-strings, and 'ordinary' and really pretty undies.

cyrilsneer · 31/03/2011 17:15

My older DD started wearing the odd thong under skinny jeans when she was fifteen.

Marks knickers various styles, no G-stings, but I don't either. Marks padded t shirt bras, Which I'm not sure about because they make her look very grown up. She is taller than me (she's just 13)
However, she said they were way the most comfortable, request now her breasts are less tender for non padded ones for summer as they are cooler and the only one she's got is patterned.

Personally don't care so long as underwear stays out of sight! I'm old fashioned I don't even like matching bra straps with vest tops much. (I wear a bra with clear straps under my summer dress with very narow straps and still tend to keep my shrug on)
But anyone wearing an outfit that shows their knickers or lots of totally mismatched bra is just being thoughtless and lazy inflicting their lack of taste on others.

startail - i agree about the padded bra bit - its making her look far more grown up which is a gripe at the back of my mind but somehow i think its small on the list of 'no's'. However not sure if its the start of an uncertain road...

My observation is of all the bras we bought (5 bras for 6 quid!!!) she keeps chosing to wear the ones with the biggest pads!!! Hmm

I wear bright coloured bra's under everything and I am 35. And I only wear string thongs. Hmm.

TrillianAstra · 02/04/2011 11:19

When I was a teenager I always wanted "padded" bras.

Not padded for bigger boobs but thicker material so there was no visible nipple-pokage.

In fact I still do.

manticlimactic · 03/04/2011 09:33

My DD is 14 and refuses to wear the thongs as she says they look awful and really uncomfortable. We bought a few bra sets from Primarni and some came with thongs and she asked if I wanted them. She's a size 8 and i'm a 14.I thought it' was nice to know she thinks I would be able to wear them Grin but then she pointed out that the normal knickers that come with sets (34b) are massive on her and I usually wear those ones.
