where did you buy your daughter's from? Seemed the best place to post to get advice from those who'd already done it. She's not very keen on having one but has reluctantly accepted its time. Not much development yet but I feel too much for crop tops.

I personally would wait until she was ready, once her friends start wearing them maybe she will feel like she needs one too. Get her a training bra (like a sports bra) if there isn't much there she won't really need the support of a bra.

marks and spencers is a good place to go to btw for all sorts of first bras!

tatt · 20/10/2005 13:39

Virtually all of her class at school have them already. She has one, slighlty younger, friend who doesn't, most of her friends have been wearing them for months or even years. Its not really support that is needed but something to make her development less obvious under her blouse. She's outgrowing her crop tops so we have to replace them with something. Marks the first port of call then, anyone else got ideas?

M&S have good selection of first bras. Not always in the bra section though - ours keeps them with the kids undies. DD1 (10) likes the sports bra best - says it's the most comfortable

frogs · 20/10/2005 14:04

My 10 yo dd1 is flat as a flat thing, but knows that when the time comes we will be off to Rigby and Peller. If you're anywhere near London, I would heartily recommend it -- it's unthreateningly girly yet very glamorous, and you come away with a bra that really fits, as opposed to nearly fits. After all, if it's good enough for the queen, it's good enough for me.

Btw, what is usual age for first bra? Are we just late developers in our family?

tatt · 20/10/2005 14:25

Judging by her friends anything from 10 (when they don't need it but want to appear grown up) to 12. Staring secondary school seems to be when some acquire one. Not near London, I'm afraid so she'll have to wait for our next visit.
