what sounds reasonable?
She wants a shopping spree for clothes, a bag, some trainers.
What sounds like a reasonable figure.
Got 3 other DC coming up to 18 in next few years so need it to be equitable should they ask for a larger type thing.
What have you/would you all spend?

depends how much money you have, and what kind of shops she likes I guess!!!

I dunno... maybe £250?

mumeeee · 24/01/2011 21:24

We probably spent around £300. Because for all 3 of my DD's I took them to London for a couple of days and went to a musical in the West end and also bought them a present. DD1 had a portable DVD player, DD2 had an Ipod and DD3 had a new mobile phone. We didn't do a party.

I got driving lessons, and unless she's already started off her own back at 17, that's what dd will probably be getting.

notskiving · 25/01/2011 08:33

We thought about driving lessons, but she doesnt want them(!)
I think something to keep definitely is a road i will go down.
The clothes route can work out stupidly expensive, and yes, you are right - eminently forgettable! I think I will do some clothes, and try and think of something else!

DD's was last yr , we got her a ring. She chose it.Also had a massive party at home which ended up costing more than I thought.

marriednotdead · 25/01/2011 08:51

We worked with something to do, something to keep.

We ended up buying a ring as well, and a spa day Smile

We spend loads on a lovely watch for DD. She is now 20 and loves the watch, wears it often and it is something she will probably be able to pass on to her own daughter.

my dd turned 18 last year and was given money for her birthday by a few people -she purchased a solid silver item of jewellry that will last a very long time, rather than clothes

can you see if a peice of jewellry for £100 would be suitable and then another £100 on clothes

notskiving · 03/02/2011 14:36

we went shopping yesterday and got a ring and the rest on clothes.
Ring £70 Clothes £150
She's happy and I am glad she has something to keep too.

I know the birthday has come and gone now but I always think that a celebration of some sort will live on in the memory of the dc. i will always remember the meal my parents arranged to celebrate my 21st birthday. Such a happy time, and still have the photos.
