What would you think /do if you found that 13 yr old had removed a candle and you found it unlit in a hidding place?

Is the hiding place for the child, or the candle?

I'd think my 13 year-old was planning to read by candlelight in a romantic, Christmassy sort of way and would be thankful we live near the fire station.

What are you thinking?

ascalu · 07/12/2010 19:09

My first thought is that it mght be being used for masturbation. (speaking as a once 13 year old girl) Blush

Ds and his mates have also taken candles to use in their dens outside.

Goingspare · 07/12/2010 19:11

Well then I'd just be thankful that it was unlit, ascalu.

Xmas Confused
kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/12/2010 09:52

How curious.

lazymumofteenagesons · 08/12/2010 11:51

I was convinced this was some wierdo in a raincoat posting, but OP has posted quite a bit before.

happygolucky0 - take alook at some of the crap some of these mothers are having to deal with. Lit, unlit, covered in pubes it really is not serious.

kreecherlivesupstairs · 08/12/2010 13:29

How true lazymum.

happygolucky0 · 08/12/2010 21:18

Thanks for your replies all. lazymumofteenagesons I have not been on this talk teens before so dont have a clue what some of the Mums are dealing with yet.
Not sure I can agree that it isnt serious though. The child isnt mine and has a learning disabilty I care him overnight once a week.
Not sure if he was planning to take it home or not.

OP posts:

If we all thought twice before posting because of the relative gravity of some other people's problems, it would be a very quiet board.

happygolucky0 · 09/12/2010 14:47

Why did you think that I was a weirdo lazymumofteenagesons??? Just wanted some advice isnt that what the site is for then?

Would it be better if I had posted 13 yr had burnt the house down last night? Would that reach the your idea of a problem ? I thought we are to protect our children maybe i got the wrong idea.

Only mistake was not indicating the candle was hidden by a boy, which would have taken lots of possible speculation away.

rose1927 · 09/12/2010 19:45

Would not think anything of it...

kathyb1 · 09/12/2010 20:57

i think you all have v. suspicious minds - child might be going to make a nice candle decoration for mum's xmas pressie

just a thought

coldpaws · 21/12/2010 21:59

Got to admit, when I was young (6 or 7?? can't really recall) I was fascinated by fire and did make small fire in my room just to watch it. Luckily no bad outcome, and I grew up relatively normal (I think). But I would assume that a teenage boy with learning diffs might not think through possible risks and could be impulsive and a bit foolish, so I would err on side of caution. Talk to him and keep matches etc out of the way.

ragged · 21/12/2010 22:02

Another vote for the child just liking candlelight.

happygolucky0 · 23/12/2010 21:31

Thanks everyone .......... I have taken the matches well away now.(they were up high) I put the candle back on the mantle place where it was.
I Have spent alot of time talking about rules and taking risks ect and the danger of fire. Probably should do some more and get some fire safty leaflets too.
I remember too coldpaws when I was young ( around 7 )stealing my mums lighter as I was just curious about it, and hid it in the wardrobe.
