Rather than staying on until 6th form - maybe nursing or OTC even?/

My 16 year old is an able but totally unmotivated girl and she needs to find a focus to 'drive' her.

Nothing really fires her up at school but she is bright and despite being lazy at school - works v hard at her saturday job.

Nursing would be ideal - but can you do that anymore???

It's in Loughborough otter www.welbeck.mod.uk/

DD would love to go but knows that maths A level is beyond her, bless her.

One of dd's cadets mates is going in the army at 18. didn't fancy doing A levels (is not academic) but is doing Btec Public Services for 2 years until they join, and really enjoys it.

Sounds like she is winding you up, NotanOtter. Is her relaxed attitude making you anxious, and are you letting this show? If so, she might take things more seriously if you take a step back.

The fact that she has got herself a job and seems to be doing well in it is a good sign.

getorf i am definitely going to moot this with dd i think she may well be keen...

the far side - DEFINITELY!! ....but...she WAS a very able academic student and this year ( gcse year) she has really let it all slide....

The good thing is that going to cadets really encourages discipline in all areas of life.

Like your dd my dd was getting a bit 'meh' about school, however since she has been going to cadets her school life has come on in leaps and bounds. I have just got her report today, it is the best she has ever recieved, all predicting A and A* in all her GCSE. It mentioned in her report several times about her commitment to cadets.

They do a load of stuff - dd has been flying and gliding, also rifle shooting etc. They all go to the military tattoo for 6 days and have a blast. She is putting in for a parachute training school, and also a flying scholarship (fly a plane for a fortnight in the highlands!) and loads of other stuff.

She also plays hockey and football for the squadron. There are also loads of parties and events.

I can't recommend it highly enough.

Welbeck college..... Dd wants to go, grades are beyond her too getorf.... However her hoy has a family member working there and says they can be a little flexible due to decreasing admissions.

Army foundation college takes them at 16 too... And pays them a wage!

hiya if school isnt for her maybe she could do a health and social care course at college and send her on her way to nursing , But tbh 16 is young to leave school these days , i left at 16 but i had no option i wasnt the brightest and had no motivation , kids are encouraged to stay at school for as long as possible ,

anyhoo she could do her course at college and perhaps go on to do her nursing if thats what she wants to do , My own dd didnt know what she wanted to do till she was 17 , I think her staying on till 6th year (scotland) was best for her ,
