Oxbridge applications peer support needed

OK so my DD is applying to Oxford for entry in 2011 and has a 75% chance of getting rejected so I am told by the Oxford website so I reckon a new thread would be helpful for us parents who may end up with joy or grief but in any event need to keep sane enough to support our loved ones. Any tips on maximising chances of success at this stage?

There's a massive thread on Secondary Education called something like "UCAS applications support thread". It's live at the moment.

Right, it's EDUCATION section, called "For those of us whose dc are submitting UCAS applications".

Here?s a site that might help ? www.oxbridgeapplications.com ? there?s lots of free resources with advice and tips on applying and getting through that all important interview. Their current newsletter on interviews can be found here - www.oxbridgeapplications.com/newsroom/our-newsletter/ and there?s a blog on interview tips too. It really is such a nerve-wracking time. Oxbridge admissions tutors want to see how students think and whether they will thrive in the tutorial/supervision system. Communication is key in the interview ? as is being yourself ? but yourself in an academic context. Throughout the interview it really helps to show your workings ? and by that I mean don?t be afraid to say if you don?t understand the question/need to ask for clarity. Communicate how you are going to go about answering the question. They want to see your academic potential and how you apply what you do know to new questions ? rather than catch you out and make you feel stupid. It?s scary, but having worked with thousands of students with their Oxbridge application ? I can tell you that the majority do come out having enjoyed it ? and whether successful or not, they feel they got so much from the experience. Wishing your daughter the very best of luck ? really hope it goes well.
