Flu Daughter - What to do?

Hi, there, my daughter's 16 and for the past three nights she's been exhausted and lethargic, sleeping up to twelve hours(!!!!) a night, which is totally out of character! She's also got a wee bit of a fever, and is complaining of some pain in her muscles/joints/neck (she says doesn't know exactly Confused). She's been off school one or two days this term already with a (very) sore throat and chesty cough, but I don't think she's making it up, as she's always been happy enough with school, done well and got on with her friends. If it's still there tomorrow should I let her have a day of school? She's in sixth year so has quite a lot of work to do (even though she's got an unconditional for uni Grin), so is it worth it?

When was she off with the very sore throat? I only ask because a very sore throat followed or accompanying fever and lethargy and aches are symptoms of glandular fever. it may be worth getting her tested.

Oh, she's been tested for that, don't you worry - this was just at the very start of the school year, so August?

I was thinking glandular fever too

LionessLady · 23/10/2010 22:38

Hmm, could "glandular fever" have come on since then, I wonder? She hasn't complained of a sore throat, but I'll ask her in the morning and take her to a dr if she does Smile Thanks for your replies!

Ive had glandular fever and sounds to me thats like it... id take her to the doctors for them to test and check her glands.

Appletrees · 24/10/2010 17:02

Yes keep her off.

keep her off - she won't learn much if she's not feeling well anyway. I had glandular fever when I was younger - really bad, ended up in hospital with it - it's nasty. In the end the doctor prescribed a soluble asprin to be gargled and then either swallowed if she can or spit it out if not. it worked. even now if i get a sore throat which lasts for more than 24 hrs then I do this and within another 24 hrs there's no sign of it. Don't let her do this though if she is astmatic.
