dd is 15 and severely disabled.
she will be in full time education until at least 19.
so the government are talking about lowering the cb to 16
I presume EMA is going
no CB = no CTC ??

so how am I expected to be her carer on £56 a week??
how do I get a job, when I have to be here if she is sick, and in school holidays.
also if the LEA win and move her to the crappy local sn college I will loose her respite and have to take her to and from college.....

do I just dump her in residential at a cos of 1000's a week.

oh 2shoes that's crap!

what I will say is try not to worry about it until it happens.

Perhaps write to David Cameron and ask him these questions - he's supposed to be child/family/SN friendly Hmm

(tis squonky btw in disguise Smile)

2shoeprintsintheblood · 16/10/2010 12:01

well, I have to say, that doesn't surprise me! He talks a good talk but when it comes to real people in the real world...

LollipopViolet · 16/10/2010 12:24

I knew as soon as they came in those with a disability or a disabled child would be up a creek. Everyone said it'd be different because he knew what it was like but it's all rubbish. I've got a friend who has to wear splints to walk, is under goodness knows how many doctors because of CP and she had to go to tribunal to fight because they took ALL her DLA, her motability car etc because they said she wasn't disabled! (This is another friend btw, not H who I've posted about before).

How wrong is that???

2shoes I don't blame you for being worried, I would be (I am, I think they'll refuse to renew my DLA)...

2shoeprintsintheblood · 16/10/2010 12:27

i think her DLA will be ok, but other than tht who knows.
I suppose tbh I wouldn't be quite so worried if I knew she would continue post 16 where she is, but the added worry of the big fight to keep her there,.,.
that is shit about your DLA
(oh just has some good news, my DN is pregnant, so pleased as she has been want a baby for ages)

Full sympathy but n concrete help I'm afrad.

All I can say is that the furore over CB being cut from higher earners pisses me off atm because everyone ignores what is happening to disabled people and their benefits.

Tbh I think there really should be a mn campaign to protect disabilty related benefits as these are te people who are less likely to be vocal or articulate due to circumstances.

LollipopViolet · 16/10/2010 12:32

(Yay about your DN! :)) I seem to recall the govt saying at the start that disabled people, the elderly and the NHS wouldn't be affected.

Ha, we're a hell of a long way from that now!

i don't think I have seen one thread mention the lowering of the age for CB......
I put it down to the fact for most people their child being 16 is way off, and they think oh they can get a p/t job.
but dd can't(or can she??)

how would the goverment cope?

but until that happens - the goverment will slink off scot free as they reley on it not ever happening

2shoeprintsintheblood · 16/10/2010 13:08

I wasn't meaning that you would - please don't think that. But it is why the goverment ride rough shot over the vulnerable and their parents

But perhaps saturday Mp clincis with a lot of sn parents and thier children present and then asking the mp if he could even imagin finding the money to look after these young adults

In the same way goveremtn ride rough shot over child carer's who save the goverment thousands of pounds per year by lookign after their parents, their are reules and regulations about chidl labour but never when it is for a carer Sad

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 16/10/2010 13:16

EMA will go once education is compulsory 'til 18.

The CB thing is all bloody mixed up isn't it - can't get CB but are still in education and the DWP say you're an adult at 16 (well 15 1/2 when they send the forms) but you can't choose whether or not to continue in education and then when you get to 18 you're still the responsibility of your parents when you claim your student loan.

It's a bit crap frankly.

I've had a heated exchange with some tosspot MP about the 'adult' age for DLA. He couldn't get his head around the fact that my dd for example is treated as an adult for DLA purposes more than a year before she can offically leave school. He insists that you can leave school at 16 (you can't it's the June after you're 16 which can be up to 9 months after your birthday), claim employment related benefits and that is why you are treated as an adult for DLA. What the relevance is to employment related benefits I have no idea because claiming JSA or whatever doesn't exclude you from claiming DLA. He makes no sense whatsoever.

Have you done the adult forms for dd 2shoes?

roundthebend4 · 16/10/2010 13:22

Hmm not heard that EmA is going though couple years Down the line it probably will.Depending on salary if she's still in education should get Cb and ctc

I'm guessing she will need to claim incapacity allowance ans yes probably sit through stupid interview

mumeeee · 16/10/2010 13:44

If they do lower the CB I don't think they are going to do it until 2013. If they do lower it you might be able to get an extentoin. At the moment you can get an extentoin on your CB if you have a young person still in full time education. That is at college not uni. DD3 is 18 and doing a level 2 course so her CB has ben extended until the end of the academic year.
I haven't hneard any mention of EMA going yet.

2shoeprintsintheblood · 16/10/2010 13:51

saggarmakersbottomknocker we haven't yet I thik hers is up for renewal next year.
puzzles me as she won't be able to manage her money so I will have o have charge of it anyway(not sure how, perhaps power of attorney type thing)

I do hope your right about changes to cb not happening until 2013 as at least that will give us 2 years.

huddspur · 16/10/2010 13:57

I would be very surprised if EMA were to be scrapped if I'm being honest. CB won't be lowered to 16 until 2013 at the earliest so I don't think that should worry you too much and no-one knows whats going to happen to tax credits until October 20th.

2shoeprintsintheblood · 16/10/2010 13:59

thanks feel a bit better now, shame I have just been slagged off on another thread,
