Foreskin problems

Has anyone experienced this with their DS? My son mentioned that he is worried about his foreskin after watching embarrasing teenage bodies on tv. He says it won't go back very far, definitely not as far as the ones they showed on the programme do.

He is 13 and started puberty about 4 years ago, and everything is well developed now I would say. He doesn't really want to show us and definitely doesn't want to go to the doctors about it - he is very embarrassed about anything body-related at the moment.

So - if anyone has had experience of this - would I be doing any harm leaving it another year or so to see if it sorts itself out, or is it something which could be dangerous to not get sorted out soon? I've tried googling it and have read conflicting advice - some sites saying its normal for it to not retract sometimes until the late teens, and others saying it should fully retract by the age of about 9 or 10.

Have name changed BTW to save him killing me if he ever finds out I posted details of his bits on the internet!!

It isn't uncommon I don't think, there is stretching advice on the internet, if that fails that can be accompanied by a steroid cream which can be prescribed by the g.p.

Have a look at 'phimosis' on google and see if that fits the problemo.

My DP had to have an operation though this extremity is not common.

My 9yr old had to have a circumcision last summer due to phymosis. His foreskin did not pull back at all. It wasn't pleasant post op but he quickly recovered and was brave. In retrospect I wish he'd had the op when he was a baby.

Jelly, take your son to the Dr and get this sorted out as soon as possible. It must be bothering him or he wouldn't have mentioned it. He might just need reassurance from the Dr that in fact everything is fine.

It doesn't have to be circumcision by the way. Circumcision is the fail safe option but my DP really didn't want to lose his foreskin so opted for a frenuloplasty which lengthened his foreskin.

My DS had this problem and we saw a consultant when he was 9. He said that the latest research was that left alone this almost always sorted itself out by 18 and surgery should not be the first choice.
His "problem" sorted itself out by the time he was 13.
