iCloud work phone

I’ve a work phone that needs replacing (smashed screen).

When it was given to me by IT team, I was told to set up and iCloud account. I can’t really remember why or if they set it up for me. The iCloud account is set up using my work email address though.

What I do know, from accessing the iCloud account today is that it’s a password I chose as it’s one I’ve used before.

Stupidly, I’ve been using my phone to take photos over the last few years. Photos I don't want to lose. Photos of the kids, my parents etc. I say stupidly as like many work places we have policies in place stating you can’t download / upload things onto devices. To be honest, I was thought that meant programmes etc. But I’m panicking now that it’s photos too (tbh the probably don’t expect photos t9 be taken with the device).

I’ve not had iCloud enabling on so they haven’t synced to iCloud.

However I really want to try and save these photos.

If I sync them to iCloud will a notification “ping” somewhere in the IT dept?!! Will they be made aware I’m doing that?

I thought that

I’ve looked at doing the dongle thing (attached to phone on one end and a USB stick on another) but my settings don’t look the same as those on the YouTube tutorials and I’m worried again that will alert someone.

Thanks for any help with this.

Unless they have your iCloud password, they won’t be able to see anything synced to the cloud. All data is encrypted. If they do have your password then change it and then sync it. Is your phone managed by MDM software? If so, they may already see the data.

Thank you. How would I know about MDM software? I am forced to change my password on my phone every once in a while.

It’ll be in your settings under general > device management

Thanks for this. I can see some stuff under there so I guess there will be nothing I can do. I’m cross with myself for using it as a camera. Thanks for your help, though, I appreciate it.

Don’t be - it’s more common than you think.
email yourself the photos, or if you have another iPhone or iPad airdrop them x

I suggest

  1. Sync photos to iCloud on the iPhone
  2. Log in to iCloud
  3. Down load all of the photos.(you'll have to select them in batches of 1,000

There are several other ways this could be achieved, so shout if you run into any problems.
