Hi, my 18 year old daughter wants to buy a camera for local music/concert photography but isn’t sure what she should be looking for. She’s thinking a mirrorless one would be best? She would like a decent one but can’t spend an absolute fortune. Any help or advice appreciated - thanks

How much photography has she done? Does she understand the exposure triangle or is she a complete beginner?

it’s really important to hold a camera before buying, particularly for women. For example, I have small hands and I just can’t use Canon cameras because they are too big for my hands. My recommendation is to find a camera shop. Depending where you are, WEX, London Camera Exchange are good.

To keep costs down buy second hand. Don’t buy from eBay, but from a dealer like MPB.

For what it’s worth, I shoot Fuji. The cameras are mirrorless, small and have amazing quality. They have some great entry level cameras.

Something to keep in mind is that for concert and music photography you often need a pass to be able to take a “proper” camera into the gig, so worth checking.

Feel free to DM if you want more specifics.

Hi, she’s a complete beginner. Her brother’s in a band - she’s taken some photos at their gigs and wants to explore this further. Thank you very much for your advice, we’ll take a look at Fuji and see what’s around.
