I need a new phone and I’m a die hard Apple user but trying to avoid American companies because of the orange idiot, what are people’s experiences of moving over and is the S25 ultra worth the extra ££ from the normal s25?

I currently have an Apple 14pro max for comparison

I think much of a muchness once you get used to it. My dh struggles with my Samsung but I’m fine with my work I phone. I like my Samsung.

Buying a Samsung, doesn't really avoid "the orange one" as the OS is Google Android, as is a lot of the IP.

Personally I wouldn't want to move to Android due to the mandatory tracking, but it doesn't seem to worry most people....

Don’t do it - it’s not possible in my opinion to go from an iphone to Samsung. Everything is so clunky and non intuitive - of course this could just be me 😄

IsItOnlyWednesday · 09/04/2025 21:09

Oh I’d decided and now I’m doubting myself!

I bought a Samsung years ago and bought an iPhone within a week, I hated it. But family and friends tell me they’re much better.

Sorry but I absolutely hate my husbands Samsung phone. It’s not easy to navigate, he’s always having issues with it. As does my dad with his.
iPhone all the way.

I think it depends on what you are used to. I've never had Apple. Whenever I have borrowed a friend's, the UI is awful and nothing is where I think it should be. I find them completely counter intuitive and difficult to use.

Xmasbaby11 · 09/04/2025 22:29

I went from Samsung to Iphone and don't love it. It's not intuitive to me, even with my other Apple products! I think Samsung is better - but if you've tried before, I wouldn't have much faith you'll like it this time.

ForPearlViper · 09/04/2025 22:49

I've used both IOS and Android on both phones and tablets and it has taken v little time to adapt. If anything I find Apple products more annoying, limited and as PP said, less intuitive.

I was the same. Bought an android and a week and a half later, returned it & straight back to Apple.

I've been using my Samsung Ultra S21 for 3/4 years. I've never had a problem with it

ReefRay · 09/04/2025 23:11

I moved from an iPhone 13 to a Samsung 24Ultra. Best decision I ever made. So much easier - I'll never go back

everythingeverything1981 · 09/04/2025 23:19

I have a pixel and find it a lot more intuitive than my old Samsung, that could be because my old Samsung was a budget phone to start with though.

Had a couple of iPhones years ago but didn't really get on with them too well.

BashfulClam · 09/04/2025 23:39

My husband went from Apple to Android..3 months later he traded in the Android and went back to Apple. It got scudded across the floor with many ‘aaargh!’ Noises

PickAChew · 09/04/2025 23:48

Samsung isn't a good example of android as they're filled with bloatware.

I need a new phone as the battery is kaput in one of mine. I have small arthritic hands so options were already limited before the tangoed twat limited them even more. I might have to hold my nose and stick with my pixel cascade for now.

iPhones are dinky enough but I have an iPad and hate the OS. I'd rather stick with android as it doesn't interfere and obfuscate.

kaela100 · 10/04/2025 00:01

Samsung is less secure, less user friendly, and in the past that was okay because there was more customisation possible. But due to the lack of security that's gone now. So you will basically have a phone that costs the same as an iphone but is inferior in most ways.

Not saying iphone is the best though. There are decent options you just have to decide what you really can't go without.

IsItOnlyWednesday · 10/04/2025 21:17

Really interesting thank you.

I use the phone for social media, photos, emails, reminders etc.

Good quality camera and I’d like better AI interface are a priority in my next phone.

I think you'd be better off with a Google Pixel 9 Pro. No bloatware. Pure Android

IsItOnlyWednesday · 10/04/2025 21:30

DS has one of them, it’s American I think?

Oooops! Google is American owned, yes. They used to be actually made in China and Vietnam, but apparently now some are made in India, I believe.

I'm sorry, I stupidly forgot that you were trying to avoid American goods. I was reacting to your comment about the camera and the use of AI. The Pixel phones trump every other manufacturer in this regard. (See what I did there?!?!)
