iPhone to galaxy... setup?

I've had an iPhone as long as I can remember and I have an Apple Watch top albeit old. I've had enough as yet again the battery is only lasting a few hours. I've decided a galaxy A35 instead.

I'm worried about the transfer as I've backed everything up on iCloud and when I get a new iPhone it's simple to transfer. If I get a different brand is it going to be a pain?

Please advise as really need to replace and don't want to get an iPhone just because that's what I have now.

I did this. I already had a google account so back up my contacts, photos etc from the iphone to google. Then signed in to google from the android phone.

I've just looked on play store and there is an app called "switch to android" by google that you can download to iphone and ipad. I've never used it but that might help.

There's also this link

https://www.android.com/intl/en_uk/switch-to-android/

Its always made out to be more complicated than it needs to be, usually by apple fans but its ok.

I also have an ipad and have the same contacts, photos etc across my android phone and ipad. I never really used apple music tho, as I prefer spotify.

Good luck!

It depends how much stuff you have. When I get near my limit, I delete some photos and videos.

@DeltaAlphaDelta79 it's how to transfer from using iPhone for many years to galaxy or google or whatever I get next! Worried it will be hard but it can't be in this day and age. Although all my passwords are stored in my phone. I wonder if I can just move the sim over as the iPhone one is small

That link is fairly clear on how to do it, and it looks like it has got easier since I last swapped.

The sim card should fit, but your network will provide a different one if not.

I know this isn't what you're asking, so apologies in advance, but are you really, really sure that you want to do this? I ask because I did so, a few years ago, and I really persevered, but the Galaxy (the top of the range model at the time) just did not have the same user-friendly flexibility and speed of the iPhone.

This is exactly the sort of thing I would like to discuss.... is it worth it? I get annoyed with the price of iPhone when the battery seems rubbish and the camera isn't great.

The battery life on the Samsung wasn't much better than my iPhone, and the camera is fine for my needs (just social/family photos) - I simply didn't find the Samsung at all intuitive.

Have you tried searching 'compare iPhone to Samsung' or some such?

qwertyasdfgzxcv · 13/08/2024 14:13

Ok that's helpful

I have a galaxy s24 ultra which is the Samsung top of the line, equivalent to the iphone 15 pro. All my teens have iphones and DP has an iphone 15. I am basically the tech admin for all these devices and use them all regularly. The samsung galaxy is by for the best for taking photos, and they all use mine to take pictures on holiday. Other than that, they are much of a muchness and are all connected on shared gmail calender, onedrives etc. Use same apps as there is v little now that isnt in both app stores.

Its dead easy to transfer between them nowadays, just back up everything to Google before you start.

The difference really is between high end and low end phones in either ecosystem now, equivalent from each are pretty similar now. Eg there v little difference between my Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and DPs iphone 15 in terms of user experience. I just prefer the Android ecosystem but it is perfectly possible to mix and match between them now. Eg Ds2 has a windows laptop, ipad, galaxy watch and iphone and all interconnect fine.

Apple is more restricted in that you cant use icloud as a central data store but just use google or MS and you can use this with either.

The Samsung Galaxy Android phone you have chosen is fairly basic, just be aware, and prob not equivalend to an iphone 14/15.
